Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, February 20, 1985, page 7 School Board Meeting Immunization up-date Because of recently con- firmed cases of polio in Finland, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit is! ad- vising the public to check that their immunization is up-to-date. Travellers who have been to Finland within the past two months, and those planning to visit Finland, are particularly urged to consult their fami- ly doctors or attend a Health Unit immunization clinigvd. .<; Also; anyone who has hosted visitors from Finland within the past two months should check on their polio immunization status. Protection against the virus is provided by a series of four shots scheduled out over a year and then a booster shot every ten years. Ontario school students receive their immunization from health unit nurses on a regularly scheduled basis. In Thunder Bay, im- munization clinics are held at 300 North Lillie Street, second floor, every Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. The clinic is also open from 6 to 8 p.m. the first_and third Wednes- day of every month. In Terrace Bay, the public may contact their family doctors, or the health unit sub-office for appointments. - Although the polio booster shoot is generally acknowledged as being ef- fective for ten years, anyone travelling into a problem area who has been more than five years since a booster might wish to be re-vaccinated.
