Delaney, were on hand to make a , presentation concerning the operation of cabooseless trains. The presentation, produced by CP Rail, outlined the railway posi- tion onthe safety of cabooseless trains, and the various safety apparatus put into place, which would make for the safe operation of trains without a crew on the rear end of the train, as claimed by both. the CP and CN Railways. He pointed out, that at this time, the issue is not jobs, but rather the elimination of the caboose from the trains, which in the opinion of the railways, is just so much extra ex- pense at this time. Mrs. A. Gowen, was on hand to support a letter and petition from the citizens of Walker Lake, requesting, that property between the service road and highway 17 be purchased, for use as a park. Council advised Mrs. Gowen, that the matter will be investigated by the pro- perty committee, and Council will be in contact with the petitioners at a later date. Engineering Report Quotations have been received, for the material, labour, and flooring, for the hall floor repairs. It is planned to have the repairs done in early January, as scheduled. Mrs. Anne Todesco journeyed to Thunder Bay on Sunday the 9th of December to attend the Bicentennial Medal awards ceremony in recognition of Exemplary Community Dedication and Service. The event took place at the Airlane Motor Hotel. There were 44. medals presented by the Honourable Leo Bernier. He addressed the recipients and their guests.
