Northern Affairs Propane fuel law by SYD MORAN As of April 30, 1985 it will be illegal in On- tario to fuel or drive an Ontario-licenced pro- pane vehicle not dis- played a windshield sticker indicating its fuel system has been in- - spected. The inspection, which -- ensures the fuel system meets government safe- ty standards, are part of a new propane motor vehicle safety program introduced by Ministry of Consumer and Com- mercial Relations in co- operation with the Min- istry of Transportation and Communications. The inspections are mandatory under the Highway Traffic Act and the Energy Act. Identified propane vehicle owners and pro- ~ pane filling station op- erators have been no- tified in writing of the new program. Infor- mation on the safe hand- ling of propane has also been provided. Vehicles may only be inspected by certified staff at stations licensed inspection sta- tions so consumers are advised to shop around. Posters will be prom- inently displayed at pro- pane filling stations warning drivers that their vehicle must dis- _ play a propane inspec- tion sticker in order to purchase fuel. Any person driving a _ propane vehicle after April 30, 1985 without the inspection sticker is liable to a fine of up to $200.00. Any person fill- ing an uninspected pro- pane vehicle is liable to a fine of up to $10,000. or up to one year in jail, or both, upon convic- tion.
