I hope no one has webbed feet with all this rain, although I hear some people say "it's a good thing it's not snow at least you don't have to shovel rain". May be so but too much rain and we'll start to rust. It seems the stores are. already getting out all their Christmas good- ies. Now please don't get this ole gal wrong - I love the Holidays but lets stop a second: and remember those news items on T.V. last week Just open the Door to of all those poor starving NORTH SHORE CAB CO. | people, those _ pitiful now opening faces of little children. e We can resolve this year a New to make it one toy less 2nd Location for Jr. and one gift less for Mom and Dad and November 16th, 1984 Scud that Moedy iuibiesd to help buy food for those so badly in need. I guess this little old lady is getting sentimental in her old age but being of that nature all my life its hard to change. Any- way, it's better to be cheerful, makes life easier. One of our very senior citizens Mr. Dolf King who celebrated his 93rd birthday two weeks ago is now in McCausland Hospital. Simon Duguay is also. We wish both these gentlemen a 'speedy recovery. We miss them here at Birch- wood. Belated _congratula- tions to Mr. Joe Earle on receiving the Bicenten- nial award for his work on behalf of the Multi- cultural Society. Well done. Now my "'Bite". It has been brought to my attention that a plastic garbage bag is put on the sidewalk outside the kitchen of the, rec cen- tre. This has been leak- ing onto the sidewalk, making quite a mess. In fact the sidewalk now has a dark stain on it. One of these nights it will freeze and when it is lifted up will make a lot of work and trouble to clean up. Please could something be done about this? Thank you. And now until next week... Be- cause of lack of support it turned out to be a non-event. Only five of- ficers and directors were present, one of whom was a winner in our Home Beautification program, and_ three other members of the public, and two of them were winners in the Home The constitution _ re- quired us to have a quorum of officers and directors of at least seven. What are we going to do? We are going to call another Annual Gener- al Meeting on Tuesday, November 20, 1984 at Lake Superior High School, Terrace Bay and hold it in Room 105 (the geography room). No- tices will be put up and we will advertise to bring this meeting to the attention of as many people in Terrace Bay and Schreiber as we can. We include Schrei- ber in the society even though we have only one faithful member there. We used to have many more than that. There are many beautiful gar- dens in Schreiber and we get a lot of orders for plants in the spring. Surely there are some enthusiasts who could spare a few hours to help! If we get the sup- port we need from our communities we can continue. I think we give a good service to the community and with more members it could be better. This year we planted flower beds outside the Bank of Commerce, in the park, outside the hospital, in the ceme- tery, at the Catholic and Community Churches, * outside the bakery and gave flowers to the guides to put in their bed in the park. We also planted the flower beds at Kimberly-Clark (who support us year after year in our Home Beau- tification program). We have been © planting flowering crab trees out- | side the shops in the Beautification. , Simcoe Plaza and hope to add a tree each year until there is an avenue of trees all down the plaza. With the new shops going in we would hope to extend that way as well. Without support from more members of the community all this is going to stop. Our funds - which are very healthy - will be returned to the Rural Organizations branch of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (by law we cannot give it to any other group in the town), the society will be dissolved, and will not be available to bring in any more plants to beau- tify the town or to sell. - The Home Beautifica- tion program will be dis- continued and so will the Christian Bulb compe- tition. 1 personally think the town will be the rer. I know that the caring members of the com- munity are involved in giving their time to their churches and other ser- vice organizations. But if each of the churches sent a representative, the hospital, Kimberly- Clark, and the Town- ship, we would have a chance to keep this so- ciety active. I also think that there must be some people in this town who are able to give a few hours now and then to keep this society going. Have we any teenagers who would be interested enough to help? Four and a half years ago when we came to Ter- race Bay the society was also in this position. It was going to be dis- solved if no one came 'forward to help run it. It is not difficult to run. You do not have to be an expert in gardening to 'help. In fact, that is why it is run - so that we can get more expert in car- ing for our gardens, lawns and houseplants. continued on page 11 PUBLIC NOTICE Parking Restrictions Residents are hereby reminded that by-law 277 as amended provides in part as follows: PARKING RESTRICTIONS ON ALL STREETS "No person shall park or stand a vehicle.on any Highway under the jurisdiction of the Township of Terrace Bay in such a manner as to.interfere with the movement of traffic or with the clearing of snow from the Highway from the Ist day of November to the 15th day of April between the hours of 12 a.m. to7 a.m." im. dodick RO. 4 optometrist 1119 Victoria Ave. THUNDER BAY | Phone 622-7726 © CHIMNEY SWEEPS - Safe - Clean - Efficient Call "Rick" anytime 825-9309 or 825-3824
