Popular Kap a businessman challenges in Cochrane-Superior Guy Desjardins, a 36 year old Kapuskasing native is the Progressive Conservative candidate in the Cochrane-Super- ior Federal Riding. He and his wife Aline have two sons, 13 and 11 years old. The fluently bilingual Dejardins is a committed Northerner who has lived and worked in Hearst, Tim- mins and Kapuskasing and is aware of the North's uniqque needs and particular advan- tages. The P.C. candidate notes his varied work experience which in- cludes being an em- ployee of Spruce Falls Power and Paper Com- pany, branch manager for the Canadian Ac- ceptance Corporation, a summer tourist opera- tor and owner-opera- tor of a small business. "'This experience," Guy says, "has given me an awareness of, and hands-on experience in, large industry, small business, tourism and finance." With an active and committed background over a number of years in community -- service work, Guy Desjardins has been a member with executive position in a wide range of Kapus- kasing and area organi- zations, including the Knights of Columbus, Kinsmen Club, Royal Canadian Legion, Curl- ing Club, Chamber of Commerce and Down- town Business Associ- ation. Heading the polls at the municipal election in 1982, Guy Desjardins became a member of Kapuskasing Town Council and has served as chairman of the Com- munity and Social Ser- vices Committee; mem- ber of the Finance Com- mittee; and Council rep- resentative on the Rec- reation Committee, Beautification Commit- tee, North Cochrane District Family Ser- vices, Cochrane _Dist- rict Welfare Board, Por- cupine Health Unit, Municipal-Educational Liaison Committee, Economic Development Committee and _ the North Clay Belt De- velopment Association.
