There will be regular foot races plus some novelty races such as three-legged, shoe scrambles, bicycle races with cash prizes. The log cutting or buck sawing contest is open to women and men. Contestants must register for this con- test to make sure that there will be enough participants. We'll sup- ply the logs and you, the saw. There will be a free dance in the evening from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with old time music. This dance is for Ross- portites and former Rossportpeople. So let us see all Rossport Peo- ple and former resi- Successful Blitz On Saturday, July 14, the first Homeowner Blitz was underway in Terrace Bay. Sponsor- ed by the Canada Em- ployment Centre for Students, fourteen eag- er students contacted over 900 homeowners from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to encourage them to hire a student. Thanks to a support- ive community and students eager for work, this year's blitz has been a success. Over thirty casual job requests have been taken resulting in 2 to 3 days work for each student involved in the Blitz. These jobs in- clude painting, yard work, window washing, gardening, cleaning and even house-sitting! No job was considered too small. The students involv- ed with the Homeowner Blitz were so enthused by the homeowner's response, that another Blitz may come about in the middle of August. The next event takes place Sunday afternoon, August 12th, when the members of the St. John Birchmen Altar Society will hold an afternoon tea and a display of arti- facts and antiques of days gone by. Wakami Wailers The Wakami Wailers are going to be playing in Nipigon on July 25th. Most of you are probab- ly wondering who or what they are. Well, they are four Ministry of Natural Resources em- ployees. What do they do? They are a musical performing group. - The members of the group are Jeff Allen, Mike Bernier, Mark Despault and Rob Hol- lett. Their songs and skits deal with the ex- tended history of for- estry and White Pine logging in Ontario. The Wakami Wailers will be playing in the after- noon of July 25th in the downtown arena in Nipi- gon. There will be an evening show also on the 25th of July - in Nipigon.
