by ANNE TODESCO Despite the cold, the rain, fog and strong, windy weather, several hundred sportsmen braved the conditions to compete in bringing in the largest fish in the annual Rossport Derby which was held on June 23rd and 24th. The largest fish to top the scales was netted by Tyronne Williams of Terrace Bay and his fish weighed in at ten pounds, twelve ounces. The smallest fish enter- ed, weighed twelve ounces and that fish won a prize for Karen Brassard of Terrace Bay. Over half of the prizes went to Terrace Bay con- testants with only one going to a local man, namely Stanley Zwaresh of Rossport. The local park was attractively decorated in flags and signs with a sailboat offering a wel- come to all (which was mounted at the entrance to Rossport, splendid- ly painted with a fresh coat of red and white). Patricia Campbell was the decorator while Juris Zdanovskis repaired the boat, built the sail, and also the deck. It will be a permanent fixture at our park entrance. Several men worked steadily for over a month under- brushing, clearing the site, erecting booths and a marquee tent top, the latter did a fine flop to the tables during the heavy wind. There .were . food booths, confections, cof- fee, pop, as well as a crown and_ anchor wheel. The official weigher, Lester Le-. gault was kept busy. Many small fish were caught which didn't win a prize. Jacque Landry of the M.N.R. was in attendance taking sam- ples to be analyzed by the department.
