Re Seat Belts: The Inquest Recom- mendation was that "All school buses construct- ed since implementation of new seat height re- quirements be retrofit- ted with seat belts. And seat belts be standard equipment on all new school buses." The Sub- committee recommend- ed 'That the Board support this recom- mendation. That all units under contract with the Lake Superior Board of Education for use in September '84° and having high-backed seats in place, be retro- fitted with seat belts with eventually, and as soon as possible, all buses in use by the Lake Superior Board of Education be so equip- ped."' Re Stickers: : Inquest recom- mendation: "Inspect- ions for P stickers would be carried out every three months and by an independent licensed heavy duty mechanic." Sub-committee recom- mendation: "That the Board recommend that ""P"' sticker inspections be twice each year - Sept. and June. That the Board consider includ- ing independent mech- anic requirements for such inspections as part of its contractual arran- gements with any bus operator." Re Checks: Inquest recommend- ations; Minimum monthly random checks by a qualified MTC in- spector." Sub-commit- tee recommendation; "That the Board sup- port this recommenda- tion. That the Board, in addition, should have its own staff, by agree- ment with respective op- erators, or as part of its contractual agreements, authorized to conduct such random checks."' Re Daily Log: Inquest Recom- mendation; "Driver's daily log must be sign- ed immediately after continued on page 8 Terrace Bay Council The regular meeting of the Terrace Bay Council was held on Monday, March 12 in Council Chambers. Reeve Speer was not in attendance. By resolu- tion, Councillor Ollie Chapman presided as Head of Council for this meeting. Prior to regular busi- ness, the Library Board met with Council to pte- sent their budget for the 1984 year. Following this half hour presentation, ap- proval of the February 27, 1984 minutes was given. Correspondence The Recycling Sup- port Council requested of Council to urge the government of Ontario to implement proposed regulations concerning the use of certain re- cyclable materials for soft drink containers. After much discussion on this, Council conclud- ed that further investi- gation was warranted and the Clerk Co-ordina- tor was instructed to write a letter requesting more information on the subject. The Township of Vespra requested that Council pass a resolu- tion opposing Bill 142, concerning municipal annexations. This item Report was tabled until the next meeting, when more thought has been given to the topic. The Ontario Humane Society indicated an "interest in meeting with: Council in order to dis- cuss the possibility of their providing the municipality with ani- mal control services un- der contract. This meet- ing is welcomed by Council and hopefully will be held in the very near future. The Beardmore Le- gion requested per- mission from Council to sell their annual fish derby lottery tickets in Terrace Bay. Permission was granted as this is a worthwhile venture. The Terrace Bay Masonic Lodge #662 re- quests of Council, some form of temporary tax relief. The Masonic Lodge is prohibited from any form of fund rais- ing and monies are re- ceived only from hall rentals and membership fees. Funds are current- ly being allocated to- wards upgrading the present facilities and this in turn leaves a problem with the pay- ment of taxes. Council wishes to meet with two members of the Masonic Lodge in order that they may discuss this fur- ther. : The Recreation . Co- ordinator requested of Council that they spon- sor a dinner during the Northwestern Ontario Professional Recrea- tion Society (N.W.O.- P.R.S.) conference which is scheduled to be held in Terrace Bay during the month of Ap- ril. Approximate cost of the dinner would be in the vicinity of $475. Council approved this expenditure. New Business Permission was grant- ed by Council for the Clerk Co-ordinator and the Deputy Clerk, to attend a Finance and Administration Seminar, to be held ir Nipigon on March 28th, at the municipality's ex- pense. Mr. L. Bordeleau of Bruce Mines, Ontario, proposes to build a con- venience store on the commercial property ad- jacent to the bakery. His proposed building is 32 feet (full lot width) by 54 feet. Council's policy has been to require a building depth of 60 feet in the Simcoe Plaza and wanted to know if they would make an excep- tion in this case.
