Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, January 18, 1984, page 3 New Librarian for Terrace Bay _ Terrace Bay celebrating 25 years ~ Twinning with Taiwan As most residents are aware, Terrace Bay will be celebrating their 25th birthday as a corpora- tion in 1984. Part of the celebration plans will include the twinning with the town Tung Kang of Taiwan. Much discussion has been given to this subject over the past several months, and plans are now being finalized for this event to take place. Taiwan means "Ter- years and is well ac- quainted with the peo- ple, the language, and their customs. During the last Coun- cil meeting, a phone call was made to Shu Chu I, who is the Mayor of the town of Tung Kang. Interpretations were made through Gabe Fritzen with the Reeve on the other end of the line. Plans to make an exchange of visits were discussed, as well as the Mayor's 'proposed vi- sit to Terrace Bay scheduled for sometime this summer. Monies must be obtained through government sources for this trip, and things look pretty good so far. When Mayor Shu Chu I arrives, the people of Terrace Bay will have the opportunity to meet with him and to exchan- ge their ideas and their customs. It is hoped by Council that a dedicated committee will help plan a very memorable cere- mony for this occasion. Various exhanges take place during this type of visit, including such things as an exchange of flags, of keys to the municipal offices, youth exchanges, books. and photograph inter- changes, etc. Keep posted for more details, as they are made available. race Bay" in Engish, so it is appropriate to team up with this country for such a major occurence as a birthday.
