In last week's "NEWS" we attempted to inform the residents of Terrace Bay of the ground rules for oper- ating their snow ma- chines within the boun- daries of the township of Terrace Bay. In addi- tion to this, Officer Don Anderson of the Schrei- ber O.P.P. was able to update this informa- tion in regards 'to the Motorized Snow Ve- hicle Act. Guina; Secretary: Mrs. Beth Macadam; Trustees: Mr. A.W. Slater, Mr. Jack Han- del and Mr. Den Davis. The evening ended in dancing. A watch raffled by the Club was won by Mr. J. Stokes. On Thursday, Janu- ary Sth, the Chimo Club Shuffle Board group held their wind-up social at the Club Room, where a salad plate supper was enjoyed followed by the first place play-off be- tween players J. Handel and Annie Niemi; and Huck Gerow and Mary Ihnatako. The Gerow pair won the match and Mr. W.E. D'Arcy won the prize for the biggest end - a nine-ender. Later a Round-Robin of shuffleboard was en- joyed with winners be- ing Russ and Beth Macadam of this match. A new list of players was drawn up and the first game will be play- ed on Tuesday aftern- noon on January 10th at 1 p.m. "Platter Party" On Friday, January 20 at 7:30 p.m. the Youth Group of Terrace Bay Gospel Assembly will be hosting a "Platter Party" in the Fellow- ship Hall at the church. The "Platter Party" will feature the latest sound in contemporary Christ- ian music along with snacks and retresh- ments in a Coffee House setting. Mr. Don Banks of CFNO will be the D.J. for the evening. Forty- fives will be given away. There is no admission charge and everyone is invited. For more informa- tion phone the church at 825-9368. purchasing a new ma- chine the dealer is res- ponsible for registering the machine with the M.T.C. within 6 days following the sale. Re- garding change of own- ership, everyone who purchases or sells a machine shall notify the M.T.C. of such changes within 6 days of the transaction. Registration num- bers are to be displayed on both sides of the cowling - numbers are to be attached or painted in a size which is prescrib- ed by regulations. For any snowmobile regis- tered after October ist, 1983, the M.T.C. will issue two (2) decals to be placed on the cowling. A yearly validation sticker, similar to an automobile, must be purchased and attach- ed to the cowling at the end of the registration number. Concerning insur- ance, no person shall drive a machine without an insurance policy which is in accordance with the Insurance Act. This does not apply to a person operating their machine on land occu- pied by the owner of the snow vehicle. Accidents: Every person in charge of a motorized snow vehicle who be- comes directly or in- directly involved in an accident shall report to the police forthwith, any personal injury or prop- erty damage which ex- ceeds $400.00, re- gardless of where the accident or mishap oc- curs. Speed Limits On all highways (in- cluding streets) where the speed limit is posted at 50 km/h or less, the speed limits for snow vehicles shall not esx- vehicles shall not ex- ceed 20 km/h. On an authorized trail or where the posted speed limit is greater than SO km/h, the maximum speed for snow vehicles shall not exceed 50 km/h. Driving along a highway or street: Operators of snow machines must be 16 years of age and must possess a valid driver's licence or a valid Motor- ized Snow Vehicle Oper- ator's licence. In order to cross a highway, you must be 16 years of age and licenced or 14 years of age and in possess- ion of a valid MSV operator's licence. All motorized snow vehicle operators shall stop and upon demand, produce their licence for all vehicles with a red flashing light. Front and rear lights are required in accord- ance with regulations of the Highway Traffic Act (A hour before sun- rise and % hour follow- ing sunset). All snow machines must be equipped with a muffler which is in good working order. Snowmobilers must obey all rules of the road (under the Highway Traffic Act) i.e. stop signs, travelling on the right, signalling turns, etc. or they shall be subject to the specified fines set out under the Act. ; Example: fines for basic rules of the road - $28.00; for no insurance - $103.00; careless dri- ving - $78.00; and for tresspassing - $53.00. Constable Don An- derson announced that the Schreiber Detach- ment of the O.P.P. will be on the lookout for any MSV offenders. He stated that the O.P.P. will be using snowmo- biles to enforce the Act and property checks will also be conducted within the remote areas of the district.
