Box 579, Terrace Bay, or bring it to our office at Simcoe Plaza Increase of Rabies Rabies is a very ser- ious virus disease which is contagious and fatal to patients not receiving adequate treatment. Rabies is a world problem which is spreading alarmingly across Europe and North America. It is carried by wildlife species, such as foxes and skunks. The wild animals infect pets and livestock, which in turn become dangerous sources of infection to man. There were over 2,500 confirmed cases of animal rabies in Canada during the past 12 months, and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Re- sources is now studying possible means of vacci- nating wildlife carriers of the disease. Rabies can be pre- vented quite simply in pets and livestock by a \ | ts vomcraaSS regular vaccination pro- gramme. Research involved in the prevention of this often fatal disease has been very active and a company world-renown- ed for their efforts in this field is Institut Merieux. They have now produced a safe vaccine which can be used for dogs, cats, cattle, sheep and horses. This pro- duct, IMRAB, has just been released in Canada by May and Baker Ca- nada Inc., one of In- stitut Merieux's asso- ciated companies, and is available from M.T.C. Pharmaceuticals, 5100 Timberlea Blvd., Mississauga, Ontario. LAW 255. Canadian pet and live- stock owners are urged to ask their veterinar- ians about IMRAB, since it offers an ideal means of breaking the chain of rabies transfer from wildlife to domestic animals and pets to hu- mans.
