Page 6, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, August 10, 1983 Letter: Council reports not getting equal billing! Dear Editor: It is indeed gracious of the gentleman who reports on the Town Council meetings to give so much space on my , issue regarding the Aguasabon Falls Trail- er Park. However, in the - event that those who elected me to Town Council think that this is the only subject I deal with at Council meet- ings, I would like to point out a few items of interest to the taxpayers which were omitted by Mr. Huskins in the last Town Council newspap- er report. [ shall not comment. as to whether some of these items were intentionally or un- intentionally omitted. Awarding of Tender for work to be done at the Terrace Bay Airport When these tenders were officially opened on August 2nd, the four town councillors were present. The reeve was absent. Because of a reported possible con- versation between the reeve and one of the bidding contractors, it was decided by the councillors that until such conversation was confirmed, the tender could not be awarded, but would be awarded at the regular Council meeting on August 25th. When this item came up on the agenda, the reeve proposed that it be dealt with at a special closed meeting, because of the possibility of a _ per- sonality conflict. After strong insistence, it was agreed that the tender would be awarded at that regular. meeting. I shall not go into the facts or details, but suf- fice to say that the awarding of this tender has raised many quest- ions. Dog Control System in Terrace Bay Because of many in- quiries and telephone calls regarding the dog control. system in the town, I looked into the matter and presented a report at the meeting. According to police records on the number of dogs picked up and the monies received in fines, and the amount paid per month for a dog catcher, it has cost the taxpayers approximately $545.00 per dog from January 1st to July 21st of this year. I recom- mended that the sys- tem for dog control be reviewed, and a more satisfactory and less costly system be put in place. I also suggested that perhaps the time has come for us to consi- der having a By-Law En- forcement Officer in Terrace Bay. ~ Development of Ath- letic Field Negotiations between the Recreation Com- mittee and the School . Board to develop an athletic field at the high school site, have been going on for quite some time. An agreement be- tween the Board and the Town has been drawn up and signed by 'the Board, but the reeve wanted clarification on some of the conditions of the agreement before signing. Hopefully this can be done soon, as we have been in need of a- proper athletic field in the town for a long time. I am writing this letter to the Editor to try and point out that too many times, now and in the past, news articles re- garding Town Council and some members of Council are written in favour of some and dis- favour of others. Sit- ting around that table at Council we should all be neutral in our thinking, and be looking after the interests of all the tax- payers of Terrace Bay, and our decisions should be according to the laws and town policies, re- gardless of whom they affect. You showed me your support at the election polls last November, and I will continue to work on the behalf of those who voted for me as well as those who did not vote for me. I have lived in this town for twenty-four years. I have concern for every- one who resides here. Councillor Ollie Chapman Township of Terrace Bay Sa Foodmarket quality GROUND BEEF 2.38 kg. 11.08 ib.
