July 2nd and Sunday July 3rd saw a field of 43 golfers com- pete for the Kimberly Clark Trophy, emblem- .atic of the men's club championship. Trent Desaulniers, defending champion held the lead after the first day of play but it was a determined Paul Dashkewytch, who emerged with a strong second round, to defeat Trent by 2 strokes. Con- gratulations to Paul who had a 2 day total 146 and thanks to Trent with a tremendous putting per- formance posting a 148. Exception performan- ces also from Ron Sitko with a 172 to win the Rossport Notes by ANNE TODESCO The Witt family of Lake Geneva, Wis. are visiting Ray and Josephine Kenney this week and getting in a spot fishing. Eugene Gerow has re- turned from a Lakehead hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Urban Luce and-the Dave, Brennen family of Nipi- gon were among our visitors over Derby Weekend, renewing old acquaintances and take in. the Derby. Mrs. Luce's grandparents were pioneer residents of Rossport namely the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Perault. George Bruley and family spent the week- end at their summer home here and took in the Fish Derby. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Lanigan and family of Nipigon are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Dave Mush- qush. Wilfred Bertin of Marathon visited friends here over Derby week- end. Harry Tymko of Thun- der Bay visited his son Harry Jr. and family and his daughter Christine and family during the week and attended the Fish Derby. Mac Hubelit of Thun- der Bay visited his bro- ther Bill Hubelit and renewed acquaintances with old friends. Mac owns the Mac Service Station and ran the business for several years. Camillo Todesco of the CAS in Nipigon visit- ed his aunt, Mrs. Anne Todesco during the week. Mrs. Freda Gerow hosted the St. Berch- men's Altar Society members at their June meeting Wednesday evening. The parish priest Rev. Father Peter Groulx was pre- sent. Mrs. Gail Bain, the first vice-pres. chaired the meeting in the ab- sence of the president Mrs. Doris Legault. She welcomed eight mem- bers and led in the opening prayers and ex- ercises. Laura Legault read the minutes and correspondance while the treasurer's report was missing on account of the treasurer being absent. Plans were discussed of the advisability of sponsoring a _ grocery hamper draw for Christ- mas. The members ag- reed to this proposal. A spiritual reading is to be presented by the host- ess at each meeting. Giant marigold plants are to be ordered for the grotto. The secretary was instructed to obtain the price of pins for the altar society's members and the different styles of pins. If suitable, they are to be purchased. Following prayers and blessings by Rev. Father Groulx, Mrs. Gerow served luncheon. Terrace Bay Recreation continued from page 2 Introductory Account- ing This is a credit course in Accounting. Topics to be covered will be ba- lance sheets, financial statements, closing en- tries, petty cash, bank reconciliation, account- ing systems. Please call the Rec- reation Office at 825- 3542 if you are interest- ed in any of the above programs. Exact dates, times, fees etc. will be announced when avail- able. Learn to Dive This program, devis- ed by the Canadian Amateur Diving Asso- ciation will be offered if sufficient registration is received. (10 students needed). The duration of the Course will be 16 sessions, for a total of 8 hours. Instructor for this Course will be Michele Gilbert. All students should possess the fol- lowing pre-requisities: 1) Be at least 9 years of age; 2) Be heavy enough to bend a spring board; 3) Must have no spinal problems. Therg will be instruct- ions on land, in the water, and on the 1 meter spring board. Course will be taught on 2 levels: Level I - consists of basic skills and positions of springboard diving. Level II - the student' learns to perform dives that range in degree of difficulty from 1.2 (i.e. forward dive in tuck or pike position) to 1.6 (i.e. backward somersault in pike position). All students will cover Level I before continu- ing on to Level II. The amount of learning in Level II will depend on each individual's abili- ties. Safety and proper applications of skills will be stressed! To register for this course, please call the Recreation Office at 3542. To the Township for their assistance and permission to hold such events as the Fair and Outdoor Social. To the Recreation Committee and the School Board for the use of the facilities to hold dances, etc. To. Joe' Marcella for his donation of his Park and equipment and his own time to enable us to run our Annual July ist Outdoor Events. To Kimberly-Clark for their help, and a per- sonal thanks to the friends of Kinsmen who help out from time to time in setting up and running events such. as yourself and Roger Fournier. And, of course, a special thanks to everyone who came out and supported us at our various functions. During the last year we have been able to pay off our $3,000 loan which we took out to complete the Scout Hall Renovations two years ago. We are looking forward to assisting Birchwood in their kit- chen project, to provid- ing bursaries for stud- ents, and to sponsoring the Eye and Hearing Clinic in the coming year along with several other activities.
