They were conducting a road run from Victoria, British Columbia to Lon- don, Ontario. Donning runners and shorts in lieu of their helmets and fatigues, the soldiers began the long trek in Victoria on the 10th June 1983 with the scroll being handed off from runner to run- ner until it finally reach- ed London, Ontario on the 2nd July 1983. There the scroll was formally presented to the Royal. Canadian Regiment at a small ceremonial parade. Winnipeg's own bat- talion, the Second Bat- talion of the "Patricias" carried the scroll from Winnipeg to Wawa, On- tario via the Trans Cana- da Highway commenc- ing at noon on the 22nd of June. To meet the final dead- line, the run was contin- uous, day and night, making Ex Patricia Royal a challenging task for the soldiers. The trek took the runners through all the towns and cities en route in- cluding Kenora, Dryden, Thunder Bay, Marathon and Wawa. The Ad- ministrator, Mr. M.J. Vibert, presided over the election of officers for the 1983-84 term. Mrs. Margaret Sideen was elected Chairman, Mrs. Mary Tolmonen, Vice-Chairman, and Mrs. Susan Bodnar, Secretary-Treasurer. Operating accounts for the month of May were approved totalling $178,103.97. Two resi- dents were approved for admission to Pinewood Court. Bay Northern Con- structions's quotation on change order at Birch- wood Terrace to com- plete the insulation and siding at Birchwood was approved for $57,000. The same firm's tender for building a picnic shelter at Pinewood Court was also passed for $4,845. The money for the shelter was a gift from the L. Tahti estate. Another gift was by the F. Paivanen family which paid for the drapes at Pinewood Court in the sum of $672. Imperial Oil was the low bidder on the fuel oil requirements at Birch- wood Terrace for the period July 1, to Decem- ber 31, 1983. At the Birch- wood Terrace Home a western afternoon was enjoyed on Wednesday, June 22nd, then on Thursday residents were entertained with dan- cing, refreshments and lunch at the annual seniors party sponsored by the Town of Ter- race Bay.
