This playground structure will feature climbing apparatus, a tire swing, slide and other fund elements. Anyone interested in assisting in this unique community project is welcome to drop by and lend us a hand. Your support will be most ap- preciated. An official opening of the Playground will take place Monday, May 23rd at 4:00 p.m. at the new playground. Treats will be available for the children..See you there. Recreation Programs The Schreiber Parks and Recreation Depart- ment is offering a num- ber of spring and Spring/summer Recrea- tion programs. A spring brochure has been cir- culated to all area resi- dents. If you have not yet received your own copy, please drop in at the Recreation Office today. Junior Sports (Arena) This youth program features volleyball, in- door soccer, badminton, frisbee and other sports. Admission is free and open to children ages 5 and over. Come out and join the fun!! Tuesday 6-7 p.m., Thursday 6-7 p.m., Saturday 1-4 p.m. Junior Ball Hockey (Arena) Excellent exercise and lots of fun!! Boys ages 14 and under are enc- ouraged to participate in this fast action sport ac- tivity. Players must wear running shoes, hockey gloves and bring their own hockey stick. Monday 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday 6-8 p.m. Senior Ball Hockey (Arena) The. Senior Ball Hockey is attracting an average of thirty parti- cipants per session. A league will soon be formed in response to this excellent interest and participation. It will include demonstrations, two training periods with the participants dog, and information handouts. Step by step procedures will be covered on train- ing your dog to heel, sit, come when called, etc. Dogs should be at least six months old and need not be registered. Those who have already par- ticipated ina basic dog obedience course could begin intermediate work. The course takes place Saturday, May 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To register contact the recreation office at 824-2317. First Aid A St. John's Ambu- lance First Aid Course will be offered during the evenings of June 5, 7, 8, 9, 1983. Course in- structor Dennis John will be announcing spe- cific times and course location within the next week. The last course proved to be a tremen- dous success, with all participants enjoying an educating and informa- tive course. This course is for anyone interested in learning the basic fun- damentals of photo- graphy. Course content will include photograph- ic technique, camera care and equipment, film processing and other helpful hints. Watch the newspaper and listen to CFNO for details. Youth Group The Schreiber Youth Group has a weekend of exciting recreation acti- vities in store for the youth of Schreiber. On Saturday, May 21 at the Recreation Complex Community Hall from 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. All youth ages 18 and under are cordially in- vited to attend a live matinee concert per- formed by the "New- comers." This band fea- tures good dancing mu- sic and entertainment you will not forget. On Sunday, May 22, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Schreiber Public School gymnasium, the Youth Group is sponsor- ing afternoon movies for youth ages 7 to 14. The movies featured are The Three Stooges and Tron. Popcorn and pop will be served. This sched- ule takes effect Monday, May 23, 1983. A regu- lar "weekly" Baseball Diamond Schedule will appear in this column encompassing the three Schreiber Baseball Dia- monds. Until the schools are still having classes, they have first right to the use of diamonds. During the summer and on weekends, unless otherwise stated, dia- monds can be used on a first come basis. Schreiber Milers Club Due to the success of last summer's 100 Mile Club, the Parks and Recreation Dept. is hap- py to announce the "*Schreiber Milers Club."' The concept of recording the distances you as an individual walks or jogs throughout the summer has not changed. However, the program has been ex- exercise and an enjoy- able social outing. CARD OF THANKS LAWSON - The family of the late Charlotte M. Lawson wish to express their deep appreciation to all relatives, friends and neighbours who were so kind and generous to us at the time of her passing. We would especially like to thank the grandchildren and great grandchildren who served as pallbearers, the A.C.W. of St. John's Anglican Church for the lovely lunch they provided after the service, and the Rev. Tennis Court News Attention all tennis enthusiasts!! The Schreiber community tennis courts will soon be ready for public use. Certain renovations and repair work must be completed prior to this opening. A "Tennis Club" meeting has been set for Wednesday, May 25, 7:00 p.m. at the Schrei- ber Recreation Complex Meeting Room. Any- one interested in form- ing a tennis club is en- couraged to attend this important meeting. The future of the existing tennis courts will also be discussed at this time. Fit Five The Recreation De- partment has been able to enjoy tremendous success with the Fitness Ontario "Fit Five" per- sonal fitness program. Schreiber residents in- volved in this program record their participa- tion in fitness-oriented recreation activities, and upon completing a level are rewarded a certifi- cate for their efforts. Congratulations to Wally Macolm for com- pleting his Fit Five Level 2 and to all other suc- cessful Fit Fivers. Keep up the good work. Lions Club Dance The Terrace Bay - Schreiber Lions Club is staging a Victoria Week- end Dance on Saturday, May 21 at the Recrea- tion Complex Commun- ity Hall. A special fea- ture of this dance is an afternoon matinee con- cert for youth ages 18 and under from 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Admis- sion is free to the ma- tinee and the Schreiber Youth Group will be serving pop and chips. The dance features the '"'Newcomers" which promises to be good dancing and excellent entertainment. Schreiber Minor Base- ball The Schreiber Parks and Recreation' Depart- ment "Minor Baseball Program" will be start- ing during the week of May 23 to 27, 1983. The final date for player registration is Wednes- day, May 18. A remin- der to all parents that a baseball registra- tion has been set for Wednesday, May 18, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Schreiber Recreation Complex office corridor.
