Page 12, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, March 16, 1983 Rossport Update by ANNE TODESCO Rossport has gone through a very active year and the Front Street is beginning to look like its old self once more. The Community Hall and the Roman Catholic Church has had a face lift with new siding and roofs. The inside has been renovat- ed. The hall has a new kitchen and washrooms added and front entran- ce returned to facing south with carpeted steps from the ground level thus eliminating the deck: -- The former brick school built in 1949 has been sold to Leo Le- gault and he is busy renovating it. into a home. Across the street what was known as the Legault corner leading to the government dock, is a new home built by Lester Legault. His fa- ther had built the ori- ginal two homes on that corner. The one now owned by William Schel- ling was the first one that Harry Legault built and raised part of his . family there till he built a larger house on the corner. Now the young- est one of the Legault family tore down the old home and built his modern house on the site. Across to the next corner his sister Fran- ces Campbell and her husband Joseph built a beautiful new home. Next door Alex and Shir- ley Krystia renovated a building that was ori- ginally built at the turn of the century by a Mr. Kylander. It now is a quite modern home, fur- ther along the street Dave Iddison has built a new home, also Bob Fournier has completed a modern house on the shores of the cove and landscaped it. Gilbert Gerow has renovated his house on the west end of the street near Shehan's Bay. On Church Street, John Joiner and Eugene Gerow have renovated their homes and also new siding. The streets have had street signs erected the past year which makes it easier for strangers to locate a residence. A local service board has been formed in the village which involves the recreation center, the local Fire Fighters and the Rossport Water Association. The Fish Derby com- mittee is busy making plans to hold another Derby this year. The one held last year was a huge success. It promises to be big- ger and better this year with more booths and food outlets planned. Even a dance might be held. Sure will be like old times when we held at least two Derby dan- ces.
