A Penny Auction will be held following the next meeting. The regular monthly meeting of the Women's Institute was held on Tuesday, Janu- ary 11, with eight mem- bers attending. The President, Mrs. Dora Weaver opened the meeting with the Ode and Mary Stuart Col- lect. She wished all a very Happy New Year. The Thought of the Day by Marion Yates was "'God answers all your prayers." The Motto by Beetha Miller was "The future lies before you like a field of snow, be careful how you tread it, for every step will show."' The Roll Call was an- swered with "How to save our dollars." Cur- rent events included taxes, pipe freezing, ice entertaining, and sur- vival suits. Mrs. Anne Todesco read the Trea- surer's report and also gave a "History of Tweedsmuir on Mining" and other let- ters. Mrs. Annie Neimi gave her card report and received thank-you notes. Mavis Slater read a paper on forest seed- ings. A paper was read by Mrs. Hubilet about a few years ago when she looked after the fire tower in Kama. It in- cluded her experiences with bears and voles, rabbits and skunks. It was very interesting to listen to. Next month will be the presenta- tion of the New Year's Baby. Lunch was served at 'the meeting and Happy Birthday was sung to Winnie Camp- bell. Get well to Russell McAdam in _ hospital, and also to Mr. Sam Smart, Irene Moorey, Art Moorey, Charlie Boon and Ella Nesbitt. Mrs. Nettie Thorower has returned from visit- ing her brother in Thun- der Bay, it being his 90th birthday (Mr. Nuttal). Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Beauparlant. was_ Gail from Seneca College in Toronto. Congratulations to Mr. Lionel Bourguignon on his retirement from the CPR. He was sur- prised by the Staff with a supper and gifts. You will be missed Lionel. Mrs. Bern Jacomb has returned from her holidays in Toronto. Mrs. Esther Birch has returned from Thunder Bay after visiting Mrs. Bertha Johnson. Look at our RRSP Mrs. Inez McCauig has returned from Toronto after visiting her daughter Shirlee. Hi Shirlee. Mrs. C. Commisso was the winner of the Bay Family Allowance Draw. A general meeting of the Ladies Auxillary to the Royal Canadian Le- gion, Branch 109, Schreiber, was held in the Clubroom on Tues- day, January 4. The President, Judy Davis, presided with 30 mem- bers present. Secretary, Janice Bolan, read the Minutes from the last meeting. Treasurer Rena Ross read the Financial State- ment. President, Judy Davis, initiated Debbie Mineau into the mem- bership and she was welcomed in the usual manner by the Auxil- iary. All other Committees gave their reports. Un- der General Business the Installation of the 1983 Officers was dis- cussed. Also the Annual Sweetheart Bonspiel was discussed. The meeting ended with a wine and cheese, Christmas exchange party.
