SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell Associate Sports Editor Generals. Now that's another KNOW WHAT? Oshawa one our boys could win and if Generals knocked off the OHA Junior 'A' league - leading they do, they'll be right back Niagara Falls Flyers, here up in the thick of things, at Civic Auditorium last strong contenders for sixth place in the OHA Junior 'A' standings. We think that such success is not beyone the reach of the Generals. As in- dividuals, they may not place a single player on the All-Star team, but in team effort, that just has to be something which has a valuation gauge special. Know what? That win all of its own, we still last night has to be every bit think Oshawa Generals will as good as two wins for most make the playoffs night, by a 6-2 score, These days, just winning a hockey game, no metter over whom, has to be joyous news in the Oshawa camp but now knock- ing off the Niagara Falls Flyers, top team in the loop, teams, because after all, not too many of those clubs in the second division are going to grab two points from the league - leaders. WE'LL ADMIT, it could just a "flash in the pan". After all, to survive in the scribe business, one must be practical and forfeit "home- town loyalty" or bias for just the plain facts. But on the other hand, this well might be the turning point in what has been to now, a very frustrat- ing season for general manag- er Matt Leyden and coach "Ike" Hildebrand. But last night's win meant a lot more than just two points and the right to move into 8th place again. It means Generals have accomplished what a lot of teams will find too tough, they won a couple of points from the Flyers, In pure es- sence, this means Oshawa Generals can beat any team in the league and if they found the magic potion last night, they're in for better days. Oh, they'll not win any title -- we told you that back in October, but they will win enough games to be contend- ers and they will put on home performances that will make you proud to be one of their supporters. LAST NIGHT'S success puts a premium on Oshawa's gext two games. They play Marlies in Toronto on Friday night (they might manage a tie) and then on Sunday night, Yondon Nationals visit the ERIC WESSLBY, who normally contributes excel- lent alternate day - b y- day sports columns, in this space, has been. missed. A few minutes later Jim Whit- taker, beaten by a Niagara Falls forward, spun around and made a desperate poke check that saved a clear shot on goal. And before the first period was over the Generals, paced by Ron Dussiaume and Luc Bedard, had spilled any Flyer player foolish enough to cross the Oshawa blueline. last night's Junior "A" game at the Civic Auditorium where the Generals combined solid This was the entire story of Generals' passing, which has been suspect in their past few games, was crisp and sharp for the first two periods last night.
