(CP)} -- High school counsellors should do all they can to dis- courage the snobbish idea that a/ university degree is the only} ticket to' a good life, a Brock) University professor said Fri-} day. Speaking to 250 high sct hool| counsellors and principals at a} one-day higher education con- ference, Prof. J. R. A. Mayer said it is time the people of On- tario accepted the idea that other kinds of post-secondary in- struction are as good as univer sity and, for some students, bet- ter. "T don't think that the best student should necessarily go to university. Very bright students should be encouraged to go to community or teachers' colleges if their aptitudes suit them for| that." Cultural Bankruptcy MONTREAL (CP) -- The new cultural centre of old Montreal whi49 u viye D MONTREAL (CP) -- The new cultural centre of old Montreal which opened two weeks ago has offered its creditors a bank- ruptcy proposal. Its debts total about $500,000. The proposal was made Fri- day after two weeks of negotia- tions failed to produce enough . ew funds to save the venture. The centre, which was planned to include two theatres, a pub and a discotheque, will close tonight and remain shut until the creditors decide what to do, spokesmen for the 'centre said in an interview. Only one theatre has been completed in the centre which formerly housed the Montreal and Canadian stock exchanges. The current production, Fortune and Men's Eyes, by Toronto writer John Hebert, has been playing to full houses since the centre opened. Victor Barnett, named as trustee under the proposal, said continuation of the centre is the only hope for any of the credi- tors to get any money back. Not all debts would be repaid in full, he said. | | Announcement sasaki aa GABRIEL MARCHILDON Formerly With Trio Television has opened a shop under the name TELEVISION Sales & Service || 786 Simcoe St. S.
