Mrs. Coirad, a native of Nor- folk, Va., learned to handie a boat and fishing gear early in her marriage to a fisherman from Lunenburg, N.S., whom she met when his trawler stopped at a North Carolina port. She was workng in a cot- ton plant at the time. Things weent well for a few years until Mr. Conrad became ill. That. was more than 30 years ago, before medical and unemployment insurance, and she tumed to fishing to provide for~ her husband and small daughter. Mr. Conrad sometimes accompanies his wife on fishing trips although unable to handle fishing gear.
