® THE OSHAWA TIMES, Tuesdoy, October 31, 1967 SPORTS BEAT [4 By Eric Wesslby OF The Times Staff HOW MANY people can re- member when the biggest beef around Oshawa was that there wasn't any hockey to attend? Everyone talked about building a new arena and getting junior hockey back. Well, junior hockey re- turned, the arena was built, one of the best in the prov- ince, and for a while, every- thing was great. Attendance was good as turned out to see the Generals, main- ly Bobby Orr. the fans BUT SUDDENLY, Orr was gone. And apparently so were the fans. The fans were spoil- ed, having such a good player as Orr when Oshawa return- ed to junior A" hockey. True, there were other good play- ers, Wayne Cashman, Ron Buchanan, Danny O'Shea, but none had the effect Orr had. He even affects National Hockey League patrons that way. But the other players still gave the fans something to cheer about. I can't believe that it was all Bobby Orr There's still a great deal of interest. in what the other boys are doing FOR THE past two years the Generals haven't had an Orr. But there have been some good players. Despite a last place finish in 1966-67, Generals still had the all-star goalkeeper, Ian Young, until he was injured, and two of the top six defencemen, Nick Beverley and Barry Wilkins. But still the club didn't draw. NOW WE'RE into another m you unless compare it with the figures in Kitchener, Niagara Falls, Hamilton and St. Catharines. bad. That {s not So Kitchener and Niagara Falls are loaded with talent, you. say. They're running along at the top of the league. WELL, HAMILTON and St. Catharines are supposed to he up there too, but Generals own a decision over each team. St. Catharines had its smallest turnout of the sea- son Sunday, 1,900 people. But this was after the team had lost four straight. GENERALS' win Sunday should prove a big boost in the club's stock. Anytime you can overcome a two-goal def icit on the road and gain a | tie you're doing well. But D | win. that's a bonus. What made Dus- siaume laugh was Boldirev's crack. He had scored his first goal of the season earlier in the game. His comment? "See that Ron.
