CIVIC HOLIDAY ONLY YOUR CHOICE 'ZELLER'S OSHAWA SHOPPING CENTRE y, August 5, 1967 THE OSHAWA TIMES, U.K. Support For Nigeria Protested LONDON (AP) -- African |drums beat at the British for- | eign office Friday and students from the breakaway Nigerian |state of Biafra danced a war |dance to protest British support |for federal Nigeria. Tall London bobbies looked bored, American tourists goz- gled and snapped their cameras the horses of the Queen's Life Guards stamped their hooves at the unaccustomed noise. A man wearing what looked ike a checkered mini-skirt led the procession with an emblem | of wickerwork and feathers pre- cariously balanced on his head. He sprinkled oil from a small medicine bottle on the ground before starting to dance, Pretty girls in West African costumes carried banners read- ing 'America is neutral' -- Bri- tain declare your stand." A clergyman carried a _photo- graph of Col. C. Odumegwu Ojukwu, head of the breakaway state. A yellow, black and green flag also was displayed. Police closed off \Street, but four of the Biafrans jhanded in a protest message \for Prime Minister Wilson. While they did g0, Downing |Street resounded to the une familiar sound of drums from | Whitehall, 200 yards away. Biafra, the eastern region, has declared its independence of the federal Nigerian govern- ment in Lagos in a bitter tribal dispute, and fighting has brokex out as Lagos authorities at. tempt to impose their rule, Writ Seeks | Injunction TORONTO (CP)--Three mea jj) voted out as directors of British |International Finance (Canada) Ltd. at the annual meeting July \28 have filed a writ in Ontario |Supreme Court asking an ine terim injunction to prevent the Jicompany's new board from Peter meeting legally. | The three are Dr. \Charlebois, Usted in the com- |pany information circular as an J anesthetist at Toronto's Scarboe rough General Hospital; W. J. |Mollard, an executive of Cardiff |Construction Co. Ltd. of Tor- jonto; and Andrew Wofford, an engineer with British American |} Oil Co. in Toronto. All had been directors of BIF \virtually since it was founded in 1960 by Sinclair Stevens and a Toronto group. The three are. also asking bos damages" against Marc Bienvenu, chairman and president of BIF, and Jacques Mel. fi |to the company, both of Monte jreal, for the conduct of the }meeting and their "attempt to |improperly remove the plantiffs jfrom the board of directors." | Dr. Charlebois, Mr. Mollarg jand Mr. Wofford claim the eles: jtion of directors at the meeting was illegal. Mr. Bienvenu bought control jof BIF early this year from \Mr. Stevens. | 'Soft Drugs' Dispute Flares LONDON (CP) -- A raging jcontroversy over "soft drugs" |controversy over "'soft drugs" Nin Britain took a bizarre turn Friday with a report that @ jlaw graduate drilled a hole in |his head while under the in- |fluence of marijuana. A letter in the British Medi- |cal Journal from a London psy- jchiatrist said the 24 - year - old \graduate used a dental drill to relieve cerebral pressure. The drill penetrated his skull, but |did not pierce it completely. Dr. Peter Dally said the man was deluded by a group of peo- ple who believed that so-called soft drugs, LSD and marijuana, in combination with trepanning |the skull would enable man to }conquer time. During the experiment, Dr. Dally sald, the man became \frightened and felt he had been chosen as @ guinea pig. He ap- peared to be "an inadequate personality," and entered a psy- chotic state after taking mari- juana. | He was admitted to hospital, but would not accept psychia- tric treatment. | Kirport Sought On Waterfront TORONTO (CP)--A proposal ifor construction of a waterfront lairport that would handle in- creased air traffic including su- |personic aircraft will be put |before the Metropolitan Toronto fl Transportation Committee this ;month. The multi-million-dollar pro- |ject is the brainchild of a group belonging to the Civic Action jLeague, Toronto's fledgling po- llitical party. Alderman Tony O'Donohue, a civic engineer, is leader of the group. Mr. O'Donohue said in an ine terview Friday that Toronto Ine ternational Airport is too small to handle present traffic and |may well be swamped by an ex- |pected six-fold increase in air |traffic over the next 10 years.
