In the Blue Jay race, Carl SPORTS BEAT Eric Wesslby Times Sports Editor there is that Williams Is get- ting good pitching to go with the strong hitting the club possesses, It's been a long famine between first division clubs for Red Sox supporters. Who knows, with the Ameri- can League subject to as much change as it has been for the past two seasons, they might even be champions within a year or two. SPEAKING OF champions, the "champions" of fun, Cali- fornia Cuties, will be in Osh- awa next week for a fun-filled night at Alexandra Park. This club is in its 19th season of touring but strangely enough will be making its first ap- pearance in Oshawa. Two members of the team are still active, manager Liza Jane and Beulah. Liza Jane has moved from the pitching mound to first base, although "she" can still take a turn on the hill. LEO DUROCHER came up with the description to best describe Beulah, although Durocher was referring to Eddie Stanky at the time: "Can't hit, can't field and can't run, but will kill you all the time." Beulah led the team in getting to first base most often last year, drawing 250 walks. Of course, Beulah has one slight advantage. 'She's' a midget. THE CUTIES will appear Wednesday at Alexandra Park against the Oshawa City and District Softball League All-Stars, and I'd suggest you get there early if you want a spot in the stands. This one should draw the season's top crowd, with game time slated for 7:30 p.m. There's no ad- vance sale of tickets, but they will be available at the gate. NEXT WEEK is one for ex- ceptional attractions in Osh- awa. Thursday night, the pick of.the 'other' eight teams in the Ontario Lacrosse Associa- tion junior "A'" league will band up to take a hand at trying to stop the powerful Oshawa Green Gaels. They'll get together at Civic Auditor- ium and this should be a real test forthe local squad. FROM THE look of things, maybe this is what the league should do for the eastern Ca- nadian junior final.
