Mrs. Patterson learned to hook rugs from. her mother when she was 16 years old and living on a farm near Pug- wash, N.S. During her married life, while rearing five children, she would, as time permitted, hook the occasional rug, always en- joying the creation of beautiful scenes from her native prov- ince. Mrs. Patterson came to Port Perry in 1954 to be with a daughter, who at that time was on the staff of the local hospi- tal. In new surroundings, with time on her hands, she began to hook rugs again.
