Payments in the Sudbury basin alone are to. rise $1,231,- 458 to a total of $4,005,646, while the grant to Timmins will be raised $222,156. The legislature adjourned for its Easter recess, with the next sitting Tuesday, April 4. (AP) --The five states bordering Lake Erie agreed Wednesday with the fed- eral government on the type of pollution control needed for the lake and the timetable for com- pletion of the corresponding fa- cilities. Representatives of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Mich- igan and Indiana agreed that reduction of pollution will re- quire secondary treatment of municipal wastes plus disinfec- tion of effluent water bodies, said Murray Stein, an officer of the department of interior's federal water pollution control program. More than 100 cities and in- dustries' in the states will be re- quired to provide treatment fa-| cilities, with the cost running} into "hundreds of millions of} doliars,"' he said. Both industry! and government would share he cost. Stein said the states agreed to begin preparations immedi- ately for the facilities. HAMILTON (CP) -- A four- man delegation from the Select Committee on Air Pollution in southwestern Ontario will press provincial government officials to clarify their intended con- 'rols on air pollution and ask for immediate action in the gov- ernment's proposed plan to take over administration of pollution control. Meeting in Hamilton Wednes- day, several of the representa- tives from 20 communities in southwestern Ontario said they feared pollution control regula- tions would be "watered down" when taken over by the prov- ince. The district attorney had said earlier he would bypass the grand jury and file a bill of -in- formation before bringing Shaw to trial. Garrison risked a "no_ true bill" by taking the case before the grand jury. He had already won a ruling from a three-judge state court panel that sufficient evidence' was presented at a preliminary hearing to warrant holding Shaw for trial. However, he still could have tabled an auditor's report . which says John Brown, former director of the War- rendale Clinic for Emotion- ally Disturbed Children, ap- parently took duplicate vaca- tion pay totalling $1,534 in 1966. The auditor's report also indicated that Mr. Brown's wife, Deborah, got full salary for a period during which she had a baby. --A massive draft bill de- signed to facilitate "condo- minium" housing in Ontario was introduced by Attorney- General Wishart. filed-a bill of information in the case if the grand jury refused to indict Shaw. By filing .a bill of informa- tion, the district attorney would have had to divulge specific de- tails 'of the case. In Louisiana, which patterns its laws on the Napoleonic Code of France, a prosecutor has a_ choice of bringing a man to trial either by a grand jury indictment or a bill of information. Shaw was charged by the grand jury's true bill with "wil- fully and unlawfully conspiring with David W. Ferrie, Lee Har- vey Oswald and unnamed others to murder John F. Kennedy." Perry Raymond Russo, 25, star witness for Garrison in last week's emotional court hearing, made a surprise appearance be- fore the grand jury hefore the announcement of the indictment. Russo told the three - judge court last week he heard Shaw, Ferrie and Oswald plotting in mid - September, 1963, to kill Kennedy. Shaw is the only one of the conspirators named in the indictment still alive. Ferrie, 47, was found dead in bed here Feb. 22. Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby two days after the assassination.
