THE OSHAWA, TIMES, Tuesdey, November 22, 1966 The Mothers Group of the Diabetic Association in Oshawa was first started at the home of Mrs. George Glassford in April, '1959, with a total of eight: members, Mrs. W. Robert Lean being the first president. The current president is Mrs. Jules Ethier, and the member- ship now totals 35. The 'Mothers' Group meets once a month in the mothers' homes learning more. about their children's condition through medical knowledge, not through their own personal .ex- perience, The Mothers' Group faises money to help send diabetic -children to summer camp, Camp costs for these children are extremely high as a quali- fied nurse, doctor, and a dieti- tian have to be at the camp 24 hours a day. The dietitian has to be at camp as every camper has his or her own. diet which has to be measured and weighed according to the child's requirements, and _ the amount of insulin being taken. This year through © their efforts, and the donations from other organizations in the city, they were able to help five dia- betic children attend summer camp, according to each camp- er's financial need. In February of this year they held a Valentine card party at Woodview Hall, and at the general meeting Miss Doris Wright, RN, of Oshawa General Hospital, spoke on the different stages of development in chil- dren and phases they "go through at certain ages. In April they held a success- ful rummace sats at tie UAW Hall, Bond "street.
