College Football Revival MONTREAL (CP) -- College football is undergoing a revival, says Harry Griffiths, athletic director at McGill University. But Griffiths doesn't think there will be any sudden expan- sion of the Ontario-Quebec Ath- letic Association's 'four - team football conference. Griffiths, in. an interview, cited attendance figures to back his claim there's a boom, in- cluding the game at Toronto's Varsity Stadium last Saturday when more than 13,000 fans watched University of Toronto defeat University of Western Ontario 45-7. "Among the factors contribut- ing to our optimistic attendance outlook is the inclination of the Canadian pros to night football. College football has tradition- ally been a Saturday afternoon sport." He doesn't think the associa- tion's conference, which also in- cludes Queen's University at Kingston, is ready for expan- sion "at the moment." "There's far too much tradi- tion linked with our four-team program and too little to sug- gest we'd benefit from a box- office standpoint by any expan- sion." Jim Rountree Signs 1967 - 68 TORONTO (CP)--lim Roun. tree signed a two - year con- tract Wednesday with Toronte Argonauts of the Eastern Foot- ball Conference. But the Argos learned that punter Dave Mann plans to re- tire at the end of the current season. Rountree, who leads the EFC in career pass interceptions with 38, was playing this sea- son on a contract option which provided him 90 per cent of his 1965 salary. He was reported anxious to play in the Ameri- can Football League for Miami Dolphins in 1967. "It wasn't Miami," he said. "It. was another team in the South, But I re - evaluated things--I've played up here nine years now--and decided to sign again." j Rountree's new contract eoy- ers the rest of this season and next year. He regains the 10 per cent salary deduction this year. Mann, who joined the Argo- nauts in 1956, announced that he will retire after this season to devote full time to his busi- ness career. introducing the barefoot comfort St: «e+ the softness of carpet .»» the toughness of vinyl .».now combined in one revolutionary new floor covering, never needs wax- | ing.
