Primarily it will be Oshawa's men of commerce who will ex- hibit aspects of their businesses Sept. 15, 16.and 17 at the Civic Auditorium. They are readily prepared to forecast the show is going to generate enthusiasm. Probably the main reason is the event is something original here and all exhibitors have been hand pick- ed--some 90 of them. The basic aim of the produc- fion is to draw the curtain and reveal Oshawa's commercial activity on one stage, giving wandering window-shoppers a field day. One glamorous attraction to the show, which kicks off at'7 p.m, Sept. 15, will be Oshawa's own Shirley Harmer, now 32, who in the 1950's sang her way to a parallel with music greats around the globe. Shirley is the. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Harmer, 493 Rossland Rd. W. She. made it. fo the top largely through radio and television performances. Her billing at the Home Show is with the Jimmy Dale Trio, working largely in the Toronto area, and laugh-promoter-singer Bob Francis, working the On- tario entertainment circuit. Francis, who has come to be Known as the 'big fellow,' has travelled far, geographically and vocally since the days when he won amateur talent shows around Pittsburgin, Penn., (he was born and edu- cated at Sharon, Penn.) and appeared in variety and min- strel shows. The turning point in his career started while he was a disc jockey for the Armed Forces Radio and Tele- vision Service, when he was voted by service men ali over the Far East as the top male vocalist. ; MANY MORE AHEAD The Home Show. was or- ganized by 42-year-old Oshawa insurance agent George Martin as a private venture he aims to extend across Canada. Plans are already in the making, he says, for several more shows in the near future in some of the Dominion's larger centres. It was earlier this year that it crossed his mind Oshawa was big enough to give his business- display and entertainment show Civic Auditorium, hired two men and formed the Ontario Home and Manufacturers Show Ltd. -- and the company ap- pears to have met success even | beiere premiere day. Unofficially, the show opens at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 15 and before it. is over 'three trips to Bermuda will be given away, | along with a variety of other gifts. : The Bermuda excursions will be given away at the rate of one a day and each will in- volve flying two lucky people to the holiday haven where they | the | Inverurie. In fact, almost every exhibitor in the show is putting something out for grabs. Prizes through draws from the exhibit booth include a $200 shopping voucher; a smooth-top $80 mattress; each night of the three-day . show some lucky lady will win a dozen roses a week for a year; a portable transistor radie (AM and FM) worth $100... Another side attraction will involve air tours of Oshawa from the city's first heliport, which Mr. Martin got by buy- ing a $10 Department of Trans- port licence and hiring a heli- copter from Niagara Helicop- ters Limited, Niagara Falls, Ont.
