The evolution actually started a little over a year ago -- when Lakeland Broadcasting staried proceed- ings to improve FM facilities. The steps in the epolution to date are: 1. the successful presentation in September, 1965 to the Board of Broadcast Governors to change facilities for CKLB FM from 14,000 watts to 50,000 watts; to stereo reproduction from monaural reproduction; to vertical polarization as well as horizontial polarization from strictly horizontial polarization and a change in frequency from 03.5 mgs. to 94.9 mgs. 2. A change in programme format in November 1965. 3. A change in call letters from CKLB FM to CKQS in June 1966, 4. Actual construction of the new facilities started at the studio in May 1966 and at the transmitter site just off Taun- ton Road in Darlington Town- ship in July 1966 -- already constructed is the new Trans- mitter house; the tower footings and. guy wire anchor footings. The tower will be 275 feet higher than. the existing tower. It had been originally ex- pected that CKQS would have the use of its new facilities as early as last April or May but true to the complexities of mod- ern business many problems interfered with accomplishment by that date. Now it is hoped that the evolution will be completed sometime in October -- or November. The complexities in bringing such an evolution to fruition are numerous and in- 'displayed at tthe Home Show combination. This set will be in the CKQS booth. T otae a a ad listeners wil! receive the full benefit of the new facilities and they will realize the value of all the preparations and explana- tions about these new facilities. All of this will be part of a continuing effort by Lakeland Broadcasting Company Limited to bring the best in radio pres- entation to listeners in the Osh- awa and Metro Toronto area. (3) loss | of production scheduling for) transmitter, studio equipment, | tower and antenna when delays mentioned in 1 and 2 made firm contracts impossible and (4) natural delays in trans- portation and deliveries of equipment and parts from all over the world. At this point, however, the pieces are beginning to fit to- gether and the new facilities should start to fit together proper ly in the next six weeks. It is known that these delays | are annoying to CKQS listeners | and prospective listeners who | are anxiously awaiting the bet- ter reception that the new) facilities will offer. | However, none of this is as annoying or as frustrating as | the rise in costs to Lakeland Broadcasting occasioned by the delays -- costs are now about | estimated. At the Oshawa Home and Manufacturers Show, CKQS will preview stereo sound and} the effect of all the new facili- | ties at the CKQS booth through the use of special stereo ear- phones and a prepared demon- stration tape. Visitors to the Show will be invited to listen to this demonstration and after listening to fill in a ballot with their name and address and answer some questions concern- ing CKQS. During the week following the Home Show, one of the ballots will be selected on CKQS and if the questions are answered correctly, the person whose name appears on the ballot will be the recipient of a beautiful 'Mayfair' model Electrohome Steres Hi Fi and FM Radio ENTHUSIASM MOUNTS... | atiaw Wwe (Continued From 3-A) will cost to heat: them.
