Village Salutes Church PICKERING (Staff) -- St. Frances De Sales Farisn ce- lebrated its 100th anniversary with pomp, ceremony and gay- ety during the weekend in Pi- ckering Village. Saturday afternoon the vil- lage population doubled when a mile-long parade twisted through village streets led by Ontario regiment Sherman tanks, Traffic along Highway 2 and Church St. was held up for almost one hour while float after float and half a dozen bands paraded from the Pick- ering High School grounds to the church. REST PARADE Many, village old timers said that it was by far the biggest and best parade the 150-year- old settlement had ever seen, The highlight of the two-day celebrations came when all area dignitaries were invited to at- tend a solemn 'High. Mass by Coadjutor Archbishop of Toron- to the Most Rev. Philip F. Pocock on Sunday afternoon. Most of the village council along with a number of village and area protestant clergy at- tended the high mass. A Parish dinner followed the mass and the two days of ce- lebrating were concluded by a concert at the school auditor- § ium Sunday evening. e » DUTCH ENTER FLOAT IN PARADE THE OSHAWA TIMES, Monday, August 22, 1966 § \\ STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -- Sweden's planned change from left - hand to right-hand driving on all roads during the weekend of Sept. 2-3, 1967, will cost an estimated 800,000,000 crowns (about $154,000,000). Officials in Stockholm, an- xious that the switch from the left-hand system used in Britain to the right- hand system used in most European countries should take place without acci- dent, have announced that all traffic in the capital, 'except buses, taxis, and emergency transport, will be banned be- tween 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 2, and 3 p.m, the following day. About 30,000 road signs, 180 sets of traffic signal lights, and more than 2,000 bus and tram stops will be changed. Most streets in the city cen- tre will go over to one + way traffic and existing parking ar- eas will be banned. About 60,000 new parking me- ters will be installed, HELP THOSE CONFUSED Before and after the change- over, 15,000 road guides will di- rect traffic and help pedestrians who are confused.
