M.Ed., at the school's closing exercises stated the purpose of the assembly was two fold; First to honor the pupils who have, throughout the year, ex- celled in some part of the school program; Secondly to say a_ formal goodbye to the pupils in grade six and the opportunity class. He thanked the _parenis, teachers and Home and School Association 'sr their co-opera- tion during the past year. In closing Mr, Beirtiess re- minded the pupils leaving Wood- crest that their success now and in the future was in their hands. They should set them- selves a reasonable goal and work steadily towards it. Bonnie Newsome represent- ing grade six expressed words of thanks. Douglas, Bell presented safety patrol awards of merit and pins to Captain Brenda Montford, Captain Debbie Lamont, Lieu- tenant Polly Burk, Lieutenant Bobby Collins, Lieutenant Ron Harrison, and to the following patrol members -- Vicki Mac- Burnie, Kevin Kirkbride, Peggy Smith, Wendy Mallette, David Colley, Gary Ross, Jeffrey Viner, Lois Harrison, Judy Penny, Ronald Menard and Gordon Jeyes. Ray Gavey, in the absence of Tom Cotie, presented crests and bars awarded by the de- partment of physical education for city champions, to Susan Beamish and Terri McKee. Thanks were expressed to Mr.| Gavey and the participants who} won the Rotary Rose Bowl at! Alexandra Park Mrs. Gillian Heath, president| of Home and School, presented] public speaking trophies to| Diane Broadbent in the senior} division and Jo-Ann Coles in the junior division. Miss Helen. Alsop presented \¢ trophies to Renate Hoyn and Brian Weir for winning the} spelling bee. | Classroom teachers presented| certificates for perfect atten- dance to approximately 80 pupils. P. N.
