10 THE osHawa TIMES, Wednesdoy, June 29, 1900 WG sports MENU By Geo. H. Campbell Associate Sports Editor * DOMINION DAY, the first summer holiday and the only eholiday, other than Christmas and New Year's Day, that a fellow can mark on his desk calendar and be sure of the actual date, is almost upon us and with the two mid-months lof July and August, with all their hot-weather sports activity still! before us, we find it hard to adjust to the wealth of foot- =ball information that keens pouring fram the hig city sport "pages these days, Water skiers, swimming enthusiasts, efcuba divers, golfers, tennis players, baseball and softball "enthusiasts, all recognized as summer sport types, would all eshudder at the prospect of donning heavy pads, helmet, etc., -and indulging in the vigorous pastime known as '"'football training", during this current heat wave. Come to think of it, only the lacrosse players come close to simulating such ac- "tivity in the hot months of the year. However -- there's one «very important and self-explanatory reason for the ambition ~and energy displayed by the gridiron performers -- they are "professionals! For them, it's work, not play -- they get paid! HAMILTON TIGER-CATS, defeliders of The Grey Cup, "appear to be getting nothing but good news these days -- when most clubs are being struck severe blows to their pre- season plans, via draft calls issued to their intended U.S. imports. Coach Sazio was crying over the loss of his big halfback Wayne "Moose"' Kimauskas, who has gone to the U.S.. Marines but the silver lining to that cloud is that Ti- Cats now have both Bobby Kuntz and Gerry McDougail working out with them. Some four seasons ago, Argos traded Kuntz for McDougall. Kuntz was all for the move -- it was easier for him to commute from his hometown Kitchener to Hamilton and so carry on some business of his own, while still playing football. McDougall shed the Double Blue uni- form and headed for San Diego, to play for the Chargers in the American Football League, back three seasons ago, but he didn't make it with the Chargers and when he returned to Argos last term, they too were disenchanted. But Sazio is more than happy with his presence, because he has three things that every football coach wants in a player, namely ability, size and experience. McDougall has one other valu- able asset, coveted by Canadian football coaches -- he has his citizenship papers, and that makes him extra valuable, 'as long as he really '"'came to play'. OSHAWA GOLF CLUB'S Hole-In-One Club had been 'standing fast on a "'closed membership" situation for almost two years -- up until this past weekend, when two of the OGC members produced "aces" to qualify for the inner sanctum. First entry came from the distaff side, when Sue hole, Friday afternoon, while playing with Marg Jacobi, Phil Corrin and Betty Tipney. On Saturday, Jack (Did You Hear This One?) Germond, Sr., used his No. 7 iron, to bridge the gulley on the "Horseshoe Hole" (No. 3) and be- came a member. Don Storie, Ed. Lupton and "Dutch" 'Henry were the other members of this foursome. Saturday night, one of the club's social events, a wiener roast, held on the first tee, saw the two new hole-in-one shooters re- ceive praises and presentations. Jack was presented with a "Chevie II' while Sue was given a "Chevie IV" -- golf balls, not cars! Incidentally, the men's division has reached the "16's" in club championship eliminations, with eight crucial matches to be run off during the next two weeks. * DREW ALLMAN, first baseman for the Oshawa "Sklar Furniture' Midget baseball team. of the Legion Minor Asso- ciation, will be missed from his team's lineup for a few weeks. He hit two homers and a pair of singles, on Saturday, in Frankford, which was a big help in the team's one-sided "win. However, Drew got himself sidelined, via a motorcycle accident on Sunday, when he suffered a broken right arm and a seven-stitch cut on his left arm. Coach Gary Beattie promptly issued orders to the rest of his Sklar Midgets, to stay off motorcycles until the ball season is over. SOCCER GAME is changed! Soccer fans of the Darling- 'ton League, particularly those of Tyrone and Maple Grove, are reminded that the game between these two clubs, at Male Grove, scheduled for this Saturday night, is being played this evening, instead. Game time is 7.30 o'clock.
