' THE OSHAWA TIMES, Tuesdey, May 17,1966 J We need it- -- let's build it! | Civic Auditorium Recreation Complex It's for us, and our children. With all the facilities this building will have, It will be the perfect complement for the Civic Auditorlum where we go to watch. This complex will be the recreational headquarters for Oshawa families. And what better place could there be for our children, our teens and ourselves to go to? It has been a long time in coming, but It's almost here. To make it a reality, all we need Is your help and participation. It'll have the facilities we need. Two Swimming pools. A Championship Size 75' x 42' and a Training Swimming Pool 40' x 33'. A Squash court, An area for Judo. Weightlifting and body building facilities, A biitiard room. Two areas for arts and crafts. A canteen. Meeting rooms for club lectures, music appreciation, parties, A Hall with stage for concerts, banquets, dances; demonstrations. A place for ballet instruction. It will be ready next year. We have already waited too long for these facilities. We're going to start building soon, so that the building will be ready to use by July 1, 1967! It's going to be a great birthday present for us, from us. And when it's finished, it will be paid for, too! It will be ours to use, ours to enjoy, free of debt! The only way we can accomplish this pay-as-we-build program Is If everyone in Oshawa-gets behind this project and signs their pledge. It's for active participation. When we, the people of Oshawa, decided that we. needed a place to watch sports events, we built the Civic Auditorium. Now, we need a place where we and our children can go for active participation in sports, cultural, educational and social activities. Active participation is vital to a lively and forward thinking community. We can't always sit and watch others do... we must be active ourselves. And that's where the new Recreation Complex comes in. It will become the gathering place of Oshawa's active people... the place where good things happen. It's our Centennial Project. While other cities in Ontario are still trying to decide on a Centennial Project, Oshawa Is taking the lead In getting one built! That means that we will be able to celebrate Canada's 100th birthday in grand style... with a real community achievement, not something that won't be ready for 3 or 4 more years. And by building the Recreation Complex now, we can take advantage of Federal Centennial Grants to help pay for the cost of construction. Obviously then, now Is the right time to start and finish this project. It can be ours for 50¢ a week. We bullt the Civic Auditorium by ourselves, for ourselves; we can build the Recreation Complex, too! There's no doubt about the need. We must have recreational facilities, And the only way to get them is by community effort! It's up to each and every one in Oshawa to do his part. We'll all benefit, so we should all help. And it doesn't cost that much when everyone pulls together. In fact, 50¢ a week for a year will do the job! Sign your pledge today.
