- THE OSHAWA TIMES, Saturdey, March 26, 1966 @ © Gerry Ehman's 3 Goals i Many Are Forgotten Midst Hull's Heroics By GARY MecCARTHY Canadian Press Staff Writer Rabhy Hull's #tarny perform- ance in the National Hockey League this season has made some hockey enthusiasts forget about the league's other top per- formers The brilliant Chicago Black Hawhks' left winger has set two records--one for most goals in a season and another for most power-play goals in a campaign --and has four games remain- ing this year to break the rec- ord of 96 points in a season set by Dickie Moore, former Mont- real Canadiens' star. But no fewer than 21 players have scored 20 goals or more this year. The list includes Jean Beli- veau and Bobby Rousseau of Montreal, Murray Oliver and John Bucyk of Boston Bruins, Frank Mahovlich, Bob Pulford and Dave Keon of Toronto Ma- ple Leafs, Gordie Howe Delvec- chio of Detroit Red Wings, Phil Fsposito, Kenny Wharram and Doug Mohns of Chicago and Bob Nevin, Don Marshall and Jean Ratelle of New York Rangers. And Eddie Shack of Toronto, who scored only five last year, has scored 23 goals for his best year since he started in the) league in 1958-59. VERY HONORABLE PITCHER THROW FROM CASA GRANDE, Ari, (AP)--San Francisco Giants have come up with a base- ball phenomenon: a_ switch- pitcher. He is Shozo Yoshinari, a young Japanese player who can throw from either side. He is working out with the Giants' Fresno team in Cali- fornia League. "I started out as a natural left-hander," Yoshinari said. "T pitched both ways in high school. Now I pitch mostly right-handed. "I throw harder right- handed, but my curve ball is better from the left~side;" Taunwo (Cappy) Harada, who scouts for the Giants in Japan, is enthusiastic about the ambidextrous Oriental. EITHER SIDE "His fast ball is similar to that of Masanori Murakami, "He might not develop like Murakami but he can get the ball over the plate--that is the main thing." Murakami, a Harada find, pitched with the National League Giants last season but elected to remain in Japan this year. He was the centre of a controversy when he sought before the 1965 season to get out of his San Francisco contract. He stands six feet and weighs 202 pounds, has the same sloping shoulders as Gordie and a certain facial resemblance. All of which isn't surprising, since the 36-year-old Vic Howe is Gordie's younger brother. A native of Saskatoon, where} he was born 19 months after his brother, Vic started his hockey career as a junior in 1948-49 with Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey Association. In an interview, Udvari said; "Hockey has been really good to me. But if I realize during the balance of the season that I have difficulty controlling games, or if the NHL figures I have had it, then I'll pack it in after the season." Udvari, 42, owner of an insu- rance business here, said he would definitely retire in an- other year--if he stays on that long.
