WHITBY DAY - BY - DAY Senior Public School Debenture Issue Asked WHITBY (Staff) -- Town council gras requested Monday night to apply for approval for a iS-year debenture issue, in the amount of $896,000. The debenture, for construction of a senior public school, was sub- mitted by the Whitby Public School Board. In its letter, the trustees ex- lained tentative approval has een granted for the senior school by the Ontario Depart- ment of Education. The maxi- mum grant allowance by the Department is $20,000 per class- room, The trustees explained in de= tail the breakdown of the total estimated cost: Property pur- chase, $39,700; site develop- ment and paving, $35,000; esti- mated cost of building, $721,- 500; architect's fees, $43,290; furniture and equipment, $30,- 000; interest during construc- tion, $5,000 and contingencies, $21,510. Negotiations are currently be- ing completed between the) board and owners of the prop- erty, Reginald and Nora Reed.| The site for the proposed school is 19.35 acres on Garden st., Whitby. Should the school receive ap- proval of the Ontario Municipal Board and be constructed, it would accommodate all of the town's Grade 7 and 8 pupils. The proposed school would 'consist of 18 classrooms includ- ing two for senior opportunity) classes.
