After her release on ticket of leave Noy. 10, 1958, she began a new life and is believed living now in western Ontario. Donald MacLean served four' years and worked as a parking the Calgary Stock Exchange, sparked by interest in the hoid- ings of two small oil companies in the Rainbow Lake area of northwestern Alberta, reached a record 1,143,150 shares Tues-| day. The figure surpassed Mon- day's performance when 1,095,- 000 shares--highest since 1956-- were traded and the exchange had to shut down for one hour and five minutes to catch up with a backlog of orders. Interest has been focused on Leduc-Calmar Oils and Mon- terey Petroleum who had farmed out their leases in the Rainbow area to British Amer- ican Oil Co. Ltd. Interest has also been centred on Wainwright Producers, not listed on the exchange, but one of the companies which farmed out to B-A. Rumors of an oil strike by B-A on a site 17 miles southeast of the Rainbow field apparently triggered the heavy. trading. B-A has declined comment at this time. Tuesday's trading was "more orderly" than the hectic, "bunched-up"' activity Monday and trading had to be stopped for only 15 minutes said presi- dent Gordon Elves. OVER ALL IMPROVEMENT Although volumes of shares traded for the three oil com- panies slipped from Monday's totals, the effects of general trading were still buoyant enough to improve the over-all market, Leduc-Calmar opened at $1.20 a share Tuesday, reached a high of $1.26 and closed $1.10. The company's stock had opened at 66 cents last Friday, zoomed to 1.05 at Monday's opening, reached a high of $1.40 and closed at $1.30 Monday. Monterey Petroleum opened at $1.32 Tuesday, rose to a high of $1.35, then slipped to $1.15 at the close. The shares had opened at 72 cents Friday, jumped to $1.40 at Monday's opening and closed at $1.30 Monday. Wainwright Producers was re- ported attracting bids of up to $4 a share Monday, but since the company's stock is not listed by the exchange, Heinze Kaul, exchange secretary manager, said he had no idea what bids the shares drew Tuesday. Leduc-Calmar volume was 354,000 Tuesday compared with 388,000 Monday and Monterey Petroleum 179,000 compared with 189,000. Apology Is Made WASHINGTON (AP) -- James M. Roche, president of General Motors, apologized to a U.S. Senate committee today for any responsibility the auto firm had in the private - eye har- assessment of a critic of auto- mobile safety.
