18 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Monday, March 7, 1960 Gen. Murchie Dies At 70 OTTAWA (CP) -- Lt.- Gen. John Carl Murenie, 70, CBE, CB, Canada's No. 1 army offi- cer at the close of the. Second World War, died in hospital here Saturday. H Gen Murchie had heen in re- tirement here since 1947. He was appointed chief of the Canadian genera: ~air an may, 1944 and left the command in August, 1945. For the next two ;years he handled repatriation of Canadian troops as chief of staff at-Canadian Army headquarters in London. Born in Edmundston, N.B., he graduated from Royal Military College, Kingstorf, in 1915.
