Snow's name is magic at the box-office across North Amer- ica, especially in Oshawa. He appeared at the Marks Theatre in person eight years ago for two Saturday night perform- ances which drew a total of more than 1,600. The date -- Wed., March 9. The place -- Oshawa Civic Auditorium. The attraction -- the renown- ed Toronto Symphony Orchestra under the gifted direction of Seijo Ozawa, 29-year-old Japan- ese director whose perform- ances have been acclaimed in various parts of the world. Recognized as one of the leading orchestras in North America," the ~sympheny. com- prises a company of 90 out- standing instrumentalists. Its appearance will be truly one of the high-lights of Osh- awa's cultural season. Mr. Ozawa conducted the Toronto Symphony at the Common- wealth Arts Festival in Great Britain in the Fall of 1965. The orchestra performed in Glasgow, Liverpool, Cardiff and London, prior to the opening of the 1965 66 Toronto season and his first year as permanent conductor. The history of the Toronto Symphony dates from 1998. In that year a few players from the Toronto Conservatory or- _7chestra organized under the di- rection of Frank Welsman, and played together until 1917. A great milestone for the orches- tra was its initial visit to the United States during the 1951- 52 season. This was the first of 'many return engagements, in Detroit's Masonic Auditorium on a series of symphony con- Bi ccrts which included the Bos- | mn, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Chicago Orchestras. Stars Targets, Even In Wax HOLLYWOOD (AP)--A tourist on Hollywood Boulevard wants just one thing--to see a movie star. Spoony Singh, Indian-bon and Canadian-bfed, was no diffe- rent. But like other tourists, he was disappointed in the street. All he saw of the stars were their names in the cement sidewalks he walked on. But unlike the others, Spoony did something. He opened a Hol- lywood Wax Museum right in the heart of the street. It is filled with more than 100 figures -- from Marilyn Monroe to Clark Gable. Also famed his- torical figures. 'Spoony knew tha fans and souvenir hunters constantly at- tack celebrities. He didn't be- lieve: his wax figures would get the same treatment. Was he surprised? 'Last week I bought three dozen pairs of glasses to replace those stolen by customers," he Says. ; "And we never can keep Win- ston Churchill in cigars." He recently immortalized the Beatles in wax. "Tt put them under glass," he says. "And it's a good thing because every day we find the glass case covered with lipstick. It's simply unbelievable." -------- MAKE HOME | REPAIRS NOW | * REMODELLING * REC ROOMS * ALTERATIONS * KITCHEN CABINETS * Custom Built CABINETS * ROOFING and FLOORING * GENERAL REPAIRS REG. T.
