24 TUE OSHAWA TIMES, Wednesday. December 15. 1963 RED WING STRATEGY ~~~ Juggling Forward Lines Paid Off For Sid Abel MONTREAL (CP)--Sid Abel, coach of Detroit Red Wings, did some line juggling two weeks ago and it's paying off. Abel put Norm Ullman at left wing with centre Alex Delvec- chio and Gordie Howe at right wing and in seven consecutive victories since Nov. 28, the line has scored 18 of the team's 41 goals and has picked up 29 as- sists. Ullman, who played at centre in his 10 previous seasons with the Red Wings, leads the line with six goals and 12 assists. Statistics released by National Hockey League office Tues- day show 'that in three games last week, Ullman had a goal and six assists, giving him 30 points for the season, including 18 assists. That is one assist less Stan Mikita of Chicago Black Hawks, the leader a week ago, slipped into second place with 31 points. Teammate Bobby Hull had one assist last week and now is in fourth spot with 29 points. However, he leads the league in goals with 17. | Jean Beliveau of Montreal picked up five points and is fifth with 28 points. Beliveau scored the winning goals in both week- end games against Chicago to move the Canadiens into first place in the standings. Howe holds is sixth in the scoring with 26 points and Del- vecchio is in. seventh with 24 points, two more than Bob Nevin of New York Rangers. MOHNS IS NINTH Doug Mohns of Chicago is next with 21 points while Floyd Four Bantam games and a pair of exhibition contests were played in the Oshawa Minor Hockey Association Monday |night. | At Brooklin Arena, West- |mount Kiwanis bombed Keith Peters Realtors 8-3, while Scugog Cleaners. and Banks Flooring battled to a 4-4 tie. Jeff Henderson was the only repeat scorer for Westmount with a pair. Other goals for the winners came from _ Bass Bouma, Bob Blouin, Barry Meir, Emery Cascarella, Mark Thompson and Wayne Bar- riage. Murray Bryan, Dave Famme and Dave McCleod scored for the losers. Len McAvoy, Charlie Watson, Paul Bennett and Pete Smith shared the scoring honors for Scugog's. Gord Buchanan re- plied for Banks with a pair, 'and Bob Todd and Howard |Stacy netted singletons. Duplate and Canadian Corps registered wins at the Chil- iii In T-C Play In the Town and Country Hockey League's scheduled ac- tion, Sunday night, at Port Perry Arena, one game went to Quality Fuels over People's Clothing by default, when Peo- ple's could not muster the re- quired eight players to start. This pin gave Quality Fuels an automatic 5-0 shutout, The second game was a real battle, between the two giants of the league, Dunn's, and Port Perry Flyers. The game ended at a 2-2 deadlock, with both teams. going all-out for the win- ning goal, in a scoreless third period. HOMESTERS GRAB LEAD In the first period, Port Perry took a 2-0 lead on goals by Teren and Evans, with Dowson draw- ing an assist, along with Brad- ley. In the second period, Dunn's roared right back, when Troop scored with Chapman and Bob Robinson the PPannia'e Cre Pe a Port Perry Quality Fuci aed im BLUELINE BANTER--In the 'rriter's opinion, with the return of Stan Rogers to the line-up, Dunn's have the best five de- fencemen in the league and are starting to get more power from the forwards, Port Perry will be a strong contender for the title this year, with the fast attacking forward lines that they have with them. . . . It was very disturbing with the small turnout by People's and they | should have a much better turn-| out in next week's game, which' will be the last game for the! 1965 part of the season.... | It might also be noted that C. Long and,Ken Noakes were} both brilliant in the second game Sunday night- They both came up with key saves on shots that could have turned the |tide either way. | EARN EXTRA MONEY MAPLE LEAF (SAVE 14c) MINCEMEAT STOKELY'S FANCY (SAVE 7c) C.S.
