6 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Friday, November 19, 1965 Spotli ghting... THE GENERALS By WREN BLAIR General Manager of Oshawa Generals ' The colorful and ebullient Rudy Pilous leads his Hamil- ton Red Wings into Oshawa tomorrow night to tangle with the Generals. Rudy has been away from the Junior hockey scene for several years dur- ing which he coached in the NHL at Chicago and in the WHL at Denver and Victoria. During his tenure with the Black Hawks he guided them to a Stanley Cup and missed first place closely on a couple of other occasions. Ironically, his last year in Chicago the team ended with more points than any team in Black Hawk history, yet shortly after the season Pilous was fired. When Billy Reay, his succes- sor, asked Rudy if he had any advice to give him in taking over the Black Hawks, Pilous quipped "'just make sure you end first". Meanwhile back to Rudy and his Red Wings. His club has shown steady improve- ment this year after a tough grind last season. Last Sun- day they stepped into Maple Leaf Gardens and bombed the '"'Marlies" 7-3, so the Gen- erals will need to be up and ready. In Bart Crashley they have one of the better rear- guards in the league, and up front they have some fine for- wards in Peter Mahovlich, Freddy Speck, Gary Marsh, Sandy Snow and Nick Libbett. The Generals meanwhile have some injury frebjems. Beside Jimmy Whittaker, out with a broken arm, they have lost. centreman Billy White for an indefinite period with a chipped bone just above his heel, Ron Dussiaume who is playing strong hockey for the Junior "B' Crushmen may be called up to a left wing spot on the "Gens". If the locals want to hang onto second spot they will have to scamper to- morrow night. CRUSHMEN IN ACTION TONIGHT The Oshawa "Crushmen" are in action at the Civic Auditorium tonight at 8.00 against Peterboro. "Because Bobby is better than most players, fouls against him are often over- looked," Blair said. He ex- pressed. concern that such treatment could result in seri- ous injury. The general manager said he has meant to do some- thing for some time, and after discussing last night's Peter- borough - Oshawa encounter with coach Bep Guidolin he decided to take action. Blair passed up the Peterborough trip to attend the Oshawa Crushmen-Whitby Lasco Steel- er game in Whitby.
