Dering recent years, Mr. Northover has been employed as a consulting' engineer in the Barrie area, it was ex- plained by John Frost, Whitby town clerk. he felt confident he would carry Ajax polls by a large majority. --Oshawa Times Photo Pumpkin Theft Cuts Lions Club Revenue WHITBY (Staff) -- Capturing the top prize as the meanest people in the town of Whitby, someone with a half-ton panel truck stole a load of pumpkins from the Whitby Lion's Club during the past weekend. The report was turned into the Lion's Club at its meeting Tuesday evening by Don Irviné, manager of the Whitby Branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia. "The truck was seen pulling out of the field on Beech st. Sunday afternoon," Mr. Irvine informed his fellow Lions at the meeting. "We don't know who was driving the truck or how many people were involved," he said, "but we do know it has hurt out proposed pumpkin sell- ing drive this year." Mr, Irvine suggested that con- siderable damage has been created in the field by neigh- borhood children. "Children are going home with wagon loads of pumpkins," he charged, "but I' don't know exactly what we can do about it."' He said other children had been seen throwing pumpkins around the field. Other Lions attending the din- ner meeting at the Whitby Arena said they had visited the field and were amazed by-the number .of smashed pumpkins lying all over the place.
