RAMSEY Today's lesson deals with areas of Christian a and sets forth those qua which should enable us 'to make pro- gress toward a mature Chris- tian life. Reports of deviation from true Christian doctrine among th were not only emphasizing mat- ters of food, drink and holiday observance, but were preaching a doctrine of the mediation of angels which the Apostle felt usurped the place of Christ in bringing man and God into con- tact and fellowship. Whether it was serious, or po- tentially serious, is hard to say. However, Paul felt it necessary to cut the trouble off at the root before 'it could spread. To com- bat the heresy Paul issued a great and positive statement of the divinity, glory and suffi- ciency of Christ. After the usual salutation and thanksgiving at the start of the they are possessed by all Chris- tians. In verses 13-18 Paul attempts to explain what Christ is and what He should mean to every Christian. The result is prob- ably the greatest statement con- cerning Christ to be found any- where in the Word of God, tak- ing us back to the external past, to Christ's pre-existence,: and His relationship to God as His image, His relationship to cre- ation, and His relationship to the great powers of the uni- verse. In short, Christ is in all will of God and progress in a manner pleasing to the Lord, through good works and in- creased knowledge of Him and His Word, and that they be tion of , with Pre ag in| selves, it is the gift of God.
