18 THE OSHAWA TIMES, uredey, August 19, 1965 Ruto Used In Bank Job Recovered ST. EUGENE, Ont. (CP)-- Police have red the auto believed used in the noon-hour- robbery of the Bank of Mont- real here Tuesday but continued without success their search for four masked bandits, The robbers held up three em- loyees and a customer at the nch bank, 70 miles east of Ottawa; while they cleaned out cash drawers and the vault. In 'their. haste the bandits overlooked $3,000 Clifford Wylie, sole customer in the bank, was carrying in his pocket: He man- aged to slip from 'the bank shortly after the robbers ar-| rived. | Two shots were fired during | the holdup. A bullet narrowly | missed Sylvain Meilleur, one- year-old daughter of Mr, and Mrs, Aime Meilleur, who was playing on an apartment floor above the bank. The second shot, fired apparently to frighten bank employees, struck a wall. SEAL ROADS Some 60 police cordoned off roads on both sides of the On- tario-Quebec, border. The car | believed used by the robbers | was recovered at Pointe For-| tune, Que., just across the bor: | der, Minutes before Tuesday's holdup police stopped a vehicle near Alfred, Ont., 30 miles west | of St. Eugene, and after its two) occupants fled into the bush found a quantity of guns and) ammunition, Both cars were stolen in the) Montreal area earlier Tuesday. | Police have two theories. The Alfred car may have been a decoy for the St. Eugene rob- bery, or it may have been in- tended for a second holdup. | The latest robbery was the | fifth bank holdup in the region this summer, Father Spirits -- Girl To Canada LONDON (CP)--Counsel for Cpl. Alonzo Connors of Camp Gagetown, N.B., adv ised a/ High Court judge Wednesday that his client is in contempt of court for flying to Canada with his five-year-old daughter de- spite a London court order cail- ing for the child' return to her | mother in Wales. | lan McCulloch, Connors' coun- sel, said that because his client was in contempt of court he (Connors) would not be able to, resist an order for court costs | against him. | Last week Connors, a native of Upper Blackville, N.B., 'poarded a plane in Shannon, Republic of Ireland, with his daughter Evelyn Marie, five hours after the London court) had issued the order, which is/ not enforceable in the Republic) of Ireland or Canada. | Mr. Culloch told Mr. Justice) Patrick Brown that every step) is being taken by all parties! concerned to persuade the father to return the child to Britain. He said there was no reason to believe that any harm would) come to the child. | | SEEKS ORDER The court order was sought by the girl's mother, Olwen Connors of Barry, Wales, a native of Debec, N.R.. whose marriage to Connors was dissolved in New Brunswick in 1963, At that time Connors was granted cus- tody of Evelyn and another dau- ghter, Shirley, 14, by the Cana- dian courts. However, Mrs. Con- nors had the children, who were living with her in Wales, made of the British courts. A. G. Thornhill, solicitor for Connors in London, said in an) interview Wednesday that he had spoken to the army corporal by telephone in Canada, inform-| ing him it was his duty to return | the child to England. Connors | told him that he did not intend) to bring her back | Thornhill said there was noth. | ing more he could do here until! he received further instructions | from Connors or his solicitors | in Canada. Treaty-Indian : Policies Fluid NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask (CP)--W. B. Stefaniuk, adminis- trator of North Battleford Notre Dame Hospital, said Wednesday there is no rigid policy not to admit treaty Indians. "We do not bar them from our institution but encourage them | to use their own facilities to re. lieve the burden on Notre Dame," Mr. Stefaniuk said in an interview. He was commenting on charges by Rev, James B. Wil- liams, lay advisor to the board of the North Battleford Indian Hospital, that Indians are re. fused admission to Notre Dame Mr. Williams said the admin- istrators of the Indian hospital are primarily to blame for the | situation. His claims were being | investigated by both the Indian! and Notre Dame hospitals David Steuart, Saskatchewan health minister, also denied that | Notre Dame is refusing admis-| sion to Indians } Mr. Stafaniuk said treaty In-| dians are encouraged to go to| the Indian hospital for treat-| ment rather than to Notre Dame and the reason for this a bed shortage. Notre Dame had a waiting list of 300. | | | | | | AUGUST SALE OF WINTER OU re ng We ee BP etna oer penn Ber er epee en re he's . ee i Die cde 2 Ae id Fabulous Savings in our Big Pre-Season Sele!
