CLEAR SAILING AHEAD City Hospital Standards In Friendly Atmosphere - The Port Perry hospital has been described as "both friend- ly and well equipped'. Hospital .superintendent Mrs. K. M. Hook says that the many visitors to the district are pleas- ed and surprised te find hig city standards in a rural hospital. The hospital was opened in January 1953 and serves Port Perry and the townships of Reach, Scugog and Cartwright. It has 30-bed capacity, two bed 'and three bed wards, and pri- vate rooms. a Mrs. Hook noted that the hes- pital had dealt with exactly 16,000 cases in the 10 years since the opening. 1962 saw 1,018 admissions. Emergency cases shoot up in! the summer months, Mrs. Hook pointed out, as there are an in- creased number of cuts; frac- tures and beating accidents. "Of course there are the usual run of fisk hooks to be _ re- moved from unwary anglers in the summer months," she said. Mrs. Hook, a native of Green- bank, has been superintendent of the hospital fer eight years and has been on staff sinee the building opened. At present she is responsible for the day-to-day running of the hospital and sw pervision of the 52 member staff.
