An active member of the Whitby Industrial Com- mission, Mr. Morrison also served on the Committee of Adjustment. He has been employed as works manager for the Dunlop Company of Canada for whom he worked during the past 33 years. --Oshawa Times Photo Bylaw Will Regulate Hairdressing Shops Females Are | In Majority PORT HOPE -- Durham Coun- ty, with a population of approxi- mately 30,000 people, has a ra- tion of 105 men for every 100 fe- males. Males outnumber females' by 4. These were some of the inter- esting facts about Durham County that Russell C. Honey, Durham MP, brought out this week in his report from Ottawa. In 1961 there were 9,353 fam- ed a population increase of 8,801 people during the ten year per- iod from 1951 to 1961, or an in- crease of 32.5. per cent. This was not quite as fast an increase as that experienced in Ontario as a whole, which in- creased by 35.6 per cent. Durham's population increase was made up of a net gain of 5,628 on the birth ledger, and 4,173 being the net gain from immigration, Mr.-Honey report- ed Rural and urban population was divided with 21,299 rural and 18,617 urban. The rural pop- ulation was further subdivided into 7,908 farm residents and 13,391 non-farm residents. Mr. Honey sent along a re- minder that under the new dairy policy, forms are to be mailed this week to all shippers manu- factdring milk and cream. Any producer who has not re- ceived his form by June 15 should get one from his process- ling plant or by writing to the |\department of agriculture. THE MAGISTRATE WHITBY (Staff) -- A 44-year- old man was remanded in cus tody until June 28 for a pre- sentence report after being con- victed, Tuesday, on five charges of false pretences. Russell MacDonald, of no fix- ed. address, pleaded guilty to all charges. Evidence showed that Mac- Donald had written cheques in four gas stations and one motel that were worthless. ; MacDonald's wife, Frances, of RR 1, Blackwater, was also convicted on a charge of false pretences. Evidence on Mrs. MacDonald showed that in May of 1964 she had received $95 from Roy W. Nicholls at Courtice and in re- turn had given him a cheque for that amount. Magistrate Harny Jermyn told her that she. would. con- tinue on suspended sentence as the offence had taken place at the same time as the ones she was put on probation for. A man who assaulted | his brother's mother-in-law, was fined $50 and costs or 10 days in jail. William Mason, 33, had |pleaded not guilty to the charge lof assaulting Dorothy Jolly. Mrs, Jolly told the court, that on May 29 she had been at her daughter's house and an argu- ment had ensued between her daughter and son-in-law. Percy Mountjoy, owner of the pigs, said he entered into an agreement with McLean at Orone, whereby McLean would buy two pigs for $20, and that McLean ae go.to his farm and pick the best to from five pigs. : "When I got home I found that McLean had. taken all five pigs."
