8 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursdey, Mey 13, 1965 Whitby Forms SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR "Everything From Soup To Nuts' ALL'S QUIET, on the Western hockey front! Or at least, {ts extremely more subdued this morning than it was on Tuesday morning. Last night's fourth game of the Memorial Cup, Canadian Junior hockey championship series, was quiet. and orderly, according to the reports. No doubt that indefinite suspension to Dyrek Sanderson and the one-game suspensions to the stick-swinging duelists of Monday night, Ricky Ley and Ron Anderson, did a great deal towards cooling out the rest of the gladiators and reminding them to behave, when- ever they might have been tempted. They had 50 policemen on hand and their only job was to hustle three youngsters away from the penalty box, when Flyers' Goldsworthy drew a penalty. Incidentally, the Niagara Falls' ace scored two goals night but in star rating, had to take a back seat to winger Brian Bradley, who scored five goals. Bradley has been a key performer for Flyers this winter, especially in crucial playoff games. The, attendance was 5,326, an increase, no doubt created by sheer curiosity, Frank Huck, the laddie- buck from Regina Pats, brought up by Oil Kings for the finals, was their most dangerous attacker but Bernie Parent, in goal for Niagara Falls, had one of his big nights, so that this one was a comfortable win for the OHA champions, Fifth game and what should be the last of this set, is booked for ' tomorrow night. GREEN GAELS got the green light, for their ace scorer Johnny Davis, when the Ontario Lacrosse Association men held their meeting last night in Mimico, The best Junior la- crosse player in the East, and perhaps in all of Canada, got himself into the suspension realm, when he signed forms with both Oshawa and Peterborough Seniors, Johnny is him- self a native of the Liftlock City, but he wants to finish his Junior career with Oshawa and if possible, lead the Green Gaels to their third-straight Canadian Minto Cup champion- ship. It's no secret that after due consideration, Davis made his wishes clear and with this stated, there seemed little doubt but that the OLA would let him remain with Green Gaels. All of which brings us up to date -- John Davis will be in uniform tonight, against Peterborough's Seniors when they clash here at the Civic Auditorium this evening, at eight- thirty o'clock in an exhibition game, After tonight's game, coach Jim Bishop will have a "polishing-up" workout or two, prior to the opening game of the Junior schedule, on Monday night here, when St. Catharines will be the visitors. SPORTS SHORTS: Members of the Oshawa Lawn Bowl- ing Club (Men's Section) are holding their annual spring meeting, at the clubhouse this evening, starting at 7.15 o'clock, . . "SONNY" BANKS, the 24-year-old Detroit heavyweight, who suffered brain damage when knocked out in the 9th round, of a bout in Philadelphia, on Monday night-- when he struck his head, as he fell succumbed early this morning. A blood clot was removed on Tuesday but Banks failed to rally from the coma, in which he had been since rallying briefly in the dressing room, right after he was car- ried from the ring unconscious. . . . HERMON KILLEBREW'S two homers gave the Twins a 3-2 win over the Angels yester- day and kept Minnesota on top of,the American League, in spite of a double win by Chicago White Sox over Kansas City. "Mo" Monbouquette blanked Yankees 2-0 for a Boston win yesterday. .. NEW YORK METS winning 2-1 over St. Louis Cards was one of the big games in the National League, with Milwaukee winning 5-4 over the Pirates, another key tilt.... TORONTO LEAFS nosed out Columbus 5-4.
