(CP)--New Zealanders complain that the biggest gamble in the super-lot- teries run by the state is to get a ticket Regular state lotteries, drawn about once a week, offer first prize of $36,000, but the super- lotteries, drawn about four times a year, have first prize of $180,000. It !s impossible to buy a ticket in these within a half hour of the start of the sell- ing. Many agents book all their tickets in advance and long queues form before selling starts as people wait in the off chance of being able to buy a spare ticket. | The government says it will \consider increasing the number lof super-lotteries, but is under |pressure not to do so from anti- gambling interests. BERN, Switzerland (AP) -- The Swiss have never had it so good, Since the end of the Sec- ond World War the standard of living has rocketed and is still climbing. The economy is boom- ing and shows no signs of let- ting up. But there is one big snag: Foreigners are the biggest fac- tor in the Swiss prosperity. Importing foreign labor to do the dirty, unskilled jobs seemed like a good idea several years ago, but then the Swiss sud- dently realized every seventh person in the country was a Foreigners Biggest Factor In Swiss Booming Prosperity With a Swiss population of 5,000,000 the feeling grew that 820,000 foreign workers plus more than 1,000,000 foreign tour- ists each year was carrying hospitality too far. Public reaction ranged from resignation to undisguised ha- tred of foreigners. Extremists want the country cleared of the "foreign menace." There has been talk about "protecting our youth" and "purity of race." The majority of the Swiss acknowledge that they need foreigners, whether or not they like it, if their current prosper- foreigner. ity is to be maintained.
