{0 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursday, Merch 25, 1965 SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR verything From Soup To Nuts' IF OSHAWA GENERALS -- the players. themselves, that is -- have even half as much enthusiasm as their fans -- they could win The Memorial Cup in this 1965! Taken real quick, like a spoonful of distasteful medicine, that looks like a brash statement, but nevertheless, that's a fact ! Right now Gen- erals trail Niagara Falls 3-2 in games and that situation @ould be evened off without any trouble, with a real honest- to-goodness, everybody-helps performance, this Saturday night. After that would come the real big job of winning the 7th game in Niagara Falls. Faced with a sudden-death, win-or- élse situation, "Hap" Emms' Flyers might quite easily push the panic button and be guilty of a lot of costly mistakes. On top of that, Oshawa Generals have still got to produce in this series, a real all-out team effort, the like of which they fre capable of producing. Put 'em together and you've got another 1938 -- the famous year that Generals knocked off the Marlboro team that had been assembled for the express purpose of winning The Memorial Cup. IT'S TOO BAD! About five or six members of the Osh- fwa Generals are just mentally too slow (the real word is *"dumb") to realize that this is their big opportunity. Some of them, most of them, will never be this close again! This is their big chance to get their name in Hockey's big record book. A win here at home on Saturday night and then one, big, all-out effort for a win in that 7th game in Niagara Falls +-it could mean a berth in the Memorial Cup, Canadian cham- pionship finals, Generals have had much better than average uccess this past winter, in their games against Peterbor- dugh. Right now, the "Petes" have an excellent chance of knocking off Toronto Marlies. Wouldn't it be lovely, if Osh- wa could meet Peterborough in the OHA Junior "A'"' finals? t's almost admitted that if you can win the OHA, you have fa great chance to be in the Memorial Cup finals. Somebody should remind our Oshawa Generals that right now, they are only about two big wins away from being Dominion cham- pions. But they've all got to have the urge -- not just three pr four ! THE McBRIEN Mem- orial Trophy, one of the pre- mier mixed bonspiel events at the Oshawa Curling Club, TICKET SALES for Saturday night's big game here, open- ed this morning. We know that Auditorium manager Bill Kurelo planned on having his doors open at 7:00 a.m., with staff on hand to serve coffee and donuts. The ticket sale, at all three local outlets, opened at nine o'clock this morning and we can vouch for this -- they'd started to line up in front of Joe Bolahood's store, by 6:30 a.m... . MARLBOROS play the second game of their semi-final series, in Peterborough, tonight, and the result of this game will be watched with a great deal of interest The Dukes now have to win at least once in the Liftlock City and they'll be starting right out to get that win tonight. The longer they wait -- the tougher it will be... . TORONTO LEAFS came up with a spirited per- formance last night, to knock off Canadiens 3-2. It was a good win for Toronto's morale and it also helped Detroit Red Wings in their bid for top spot... . THE CAHA has announced that they, not British Columbia Assoc., will levy the fee if the Sask. Junior hockey body is to be fined for being late for their playoff date schedule It never ceases to amaze us-- how can you levy a fine on an amateur? ., . JUST THE SAME -- where has CAHA been this past few weeks while the Sask Assoc has literally thumbed its nose at the governing body? . . . SEAGRAM'S GOLD CUP, Canada's premier golf award, will have a total purse of $100,000 this summer. It's THE BENNETT Paving Company Trophy was the top prize at a recent annual mixed bonspiel at the Osh- awa. Golf Club.
