A corsage and _ boutonniere were presented to the bride and bridegroom upon their arrival and they were blessed with bread and salt in the Ukrainian tradition and later taken to the St. Mary's Orthodox Church, where the Reverend Peter Zaparyniuk gave them his blessing. They were escorted back to the hall where over 200 guests were waiting to greet them. A hot dinner was served by the family. The head table was dec- orated with a bouquet of flowers and a three-tiered wedding cake which was baked and decorated by the bride's sister, Mrs. Fred McKnight. Mrs. Krout is the former Dorothy Powlenzuk, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Powlenzuk, formerly of Oshawa, and Mr. Krout is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Krout of the Ukraine. The couple were mar- ried January 31, 1925 by the Reverend K. Bodnarchuk in St. Mary's Ukrainian Church, where their attendants were Mrs, John Krowetz and Mrs. William Wacko and the bride- attendants were the Mr. and Mrs. Krout have two children, a son Thomas and a daughter Patricia and two grandchildren. Spot-Welding Grandmother Also a Scholar TORONTO (CP) -- Automa- tion doesn't scare Marion Payne, a 50-year-old grand- mother who works as a spot welder. She figures she'll be retired before automation takes over at Honeywells Controls Limited. But that didn't deter her from taking advantage of an ad- vanced education program sponsored by the provincial government and industry in suburban Leaside. She was one of 30 adult stu- dents in the first graduating class, receiving congratulations from Ontario Education Min- ister W. G. Davis after being presented with her Grade 12 high school certificate. If, as Mrs. Payne says, she retires before automation, it won't have been wasted. CHILD GUIDANCE By GARRY C. MYERS, Ph.D. Now and then a letter comes about a child who excels in be- havior and book learning at school but is a great problem at home. ror example, a Massa- chusetts mother writes: "In school my 74-year-old) _|daughter is a model pupil with an all-A report card, and no be- and havior problems as far as the teacher is concerned. "At home there is nothing she is asked to do that does not cause a small war. We have tried the 'gentle, but firm' ap- proach but, unless we stay with her, push, threaten, and con- stantly punish, she will not do as she is told. REASONING OF NO HELP We have stopped giving her reasons why she must do cer- tain things--wash, pick up after herself, dress, bathe, or stop bullying her four-year-old sis- ter. We tell her only that she must do these things because they are right and she must obey us. "We know that she has been quite jealous of attentions paid her younger sister, and we have done our best to reassure her of our equal love for them both. "Do you have any suggestions of how we can resolve the prob- lem with the least wear and tear on all our nerves?" My reply in part: Do express great enthusiasm to this child alone and before her playmates and your friends, over her good ways end successes at school. Listen raptly as she tells of her experiences at school and else- where.
