First Aid Group Had Busy Year The year's report of the brig- ade and the election of officers highlighted the annual meeting of the Whitby Branch of the St. John Ambulance Association. Mr, Hawkins, brigade superin- tendent, reporting on activities, stated members had attended at 152 public 'events in Whitby and district, and treated 310 casual- ties, 19 of whom required trans- portation by ambulance to hos- pital or clinic. Members gave 1385 hours of voluntany service, including 146 hours spent giving first aid lectures to youth groups in Whitby. The brigade has 16 members, two of whom are fully qualified instructors. Ten are medal hold- ers and four voucher holders. Three members are now attend- 4ng-casualty- simulation. courses in Oshawa, to acquire additional skill for handling varied types of injury. Brigade membership also consists of five nursing members and 18 nursing cadets. Plans for the coming year in- clude the formation of an Ajax auxiliary Brigade Division and a Cadet Crusaders Division. When thease have been establish- ed there will be some 60 peo- ple actively engaged in first aid work. The most pressing need now is for a permanent location where instruction and training can be carried oa and necessary equip- ment stored, Provision for a modest sum to cover rental of suitable space was made in the 1965 budget but to date no loca- tion has been found.
